- La actriz Grace Caroline Currey habla sobre el reboot de DC Studios y la incertidumbre de la franquicia de "Shazam":

En anticipación al estreno de "Shazam!: de Fury of the Gods" en los cines, la estrella Grace Caroline Currey ha hablado con The Direct sobre su papel y el lugar que ocupará la película dentro del DCU tras el reboot de DC Studios ya que, aunque Gunn ya ha confirmado que dicho reinicio no será masivo, nada se sabe de dónde encajará "Shazam" en los nuevos planes.

En cuanto al próximo reinicio, la actriz ha comentado:

“Dios, soy fan. Soy una fan del universo DC y yo misma soy un poco friki de los cómics... Pero sí, tengo mucha, mucha curiosidad y estoy emocionada por ver lo que [el codirector de DC Studios] James Gunn hace y qué historias trae. Y he trabajado con Peter [Safran] desde que tenía 18 años, y él es tan encantador, y creo que... realmente elevó el género de las películas de terror y tengo mucha curiosidad por ver qué hacen con DC".

No obstante, admite que no está en conversaciones con el estudio para su regreso, pero que estará allí si la llaman:

“Creo que estamos en unas manos increíbles. Me entusiasmé con la programación, porque sé que James Gunn aporta mucho a la tradición de los cómics y es muy versado. Así es que sí, no estoy en conversaciones, por supuesto. Ya sabes, estoy a lo largo del viaje. Y cuando digan, 'Grace, es hora', estaré allí... Tengo mucha, mucha curiosidad. Estoy realmente interesada en ver qué sale con esta programación. Y creo que también habrá un nuevo aliento para el mundo y sí, tengo mucha curiosidad”.

Y si finalmente "Shazam!" queda fuera de la continuidad, la actriz dice que está decidida a dar vida a cualquier versión de 'Lady Shazam':

“Soy un nerd. Así es que, ya sabes, por supuesto, sueño con interpretar a cualquiera de los personajes, ¿verdad? Todos son geniales. Pero tengo que decir, Mary... Es inusual lo mucho que siento que fui hecha para interpretarla y lo privilegiada que soy por poder hacerlo, considerando lo que siento por ella. Cuando hice por primera vez las audiciones y Shazam aún no estaba hecha, se acaba de anunciar que David [F. Sandberg] la iba a dirigir, mi hermano me dijo Grace, 'Tienes que hacer una audición para esto. Eres Mary’. Y sacó sus cómics de Shazam y me mostró fotos de ella”.

Incluso hoy, Currey comparte cómo "es un poco desconcertante" pensar dónde está hoy, después de haber interpretado a 'Mary Bloomfield' en dos películas ya:

“... Y tenemos una foto mía sonriendo junto a una de las ilustraciones de Mary, porque él me dijo: 'Tienes que ver esto una al lado de la otra'. Eres ella. Eres ella. Trabajaste con David y trabajaste con Peter. Esto sería increíble'. Y es un poco desconcertante pensar que desde ese día, en el que mi hermano me habló de Mary, estoy aquí y puedo interpretar a su superheroína para él”.

Y al considerar cómo "Shazam!" hasta ahora ha estado en su propia esquinoa dentro del DCU, la actriz comenta:

“… He visto la película y déjame decirte que es lo primero que me vino a la cabeza mientras la veía. Y sé la historia. Estaba trabajando en ella, pero aún viéndola, sentí que estaba presenciando un nuevo mundo para explorar, y creo que tenemos muchos mundos que hemos explorado al máximo. Y fue un sentimiento inusual sentarse allí y decir: 'Esto es nuevo. ¿Qué?’ Por supuesto, que tenemos cierta fatiga de superhéroes”.

Y a pesar de que el género es tan abundante, es "lo que atrae a la gente a los cines", por lo que espera explorar muchas más aventuras de la familia Shazam:

“Hemos tenido tantas películas de superhéroes, y el género de superhéroes es lo que atrae a la gente a los cines. Pero sentí que, y es decir algo, porque conozco esta historia, tengo un interés personal en esta historia. Pero yo, como fan, amo esta película. La amo tanto. Quiero ver más de la aventura de la familia Shazam. Y bromeamos con The Room of Many Doors en la primera película, y estamos en la Roca de la Eternidad aquí y allá, y hay mucho que explorar con la tradición de la Roca de la Eternidad... y exploramos mucho más del mundo de Shazam en esta entrega".

Y en cuanto a que la gente pierda interés en ésta y en las otras películas de DC que están por salir este año, cuando hay un reboot a la vuelta de la esquina:

“Bueno, entiendo que… puede ser un poco un silo online, especialmente cuando se emiten los tráileres… Entonces, lo que diría es: ten tu propia opinión. Dale una oportunidad... Hay muchos cambios en el Universo DC... Y el cambio da miedo. Es así. Creo que cada vez que hay un cambio, la gente salta al peor de los casos. Pero también existe la posibilidad de que sea el mejor de los casos, y podría ser realmente asombroso y Shazam, la segunda, debes recordar que fue producida por Peter Safran, y ahora dirige DC”.

Y en cuanto a la nueva película:

“Es muy divertido cómo la gente se apresura a decir: ‘Estoy fuera… No estoy emocionado con eso’. Pero [Fury of the Gods] es genuinamente buena. Es genuinamente buena y genuinamente divertida. Y creo que también necesitamos eso, necesitamos ir a los cines”.

La actriz deja claro que “la película va a hablar por sí sola”:

“La película hablará por sí misma cuando se estrene, y la gente le dará una oportunidad y la verá. Creo que va a ser muy refrescante y muy divertida, y espero que todos quieran divertirse. Sabes, creo que... son películas de cómics y su maravilla y deleite. Y tenemos que volver a ese corazón y ese sentimiento de estas películas”.

Currey también habló sobre la próxima serie de cómics "Shazamily Matters", que presenta a cada uno de los actores adultos de Shazam escribiendo sus propias historias para sus respectivos personajes:

“Tenemos ‘Shazamily Matters’. Eso [está] saliendo. Tengo que escribir un cómic para eso. Es muy divertido... cada uno de los actores adultos de Shazam, escribimos nuestro propio cómic para nuestros respectivos personajes. Y Faithe Herman, hizo uno. Y mi cómic explora un poco las puertas, y fue divertido sumergirse en eso. Sí, fue genial. Mi padre también hizo la ilustración. Él entintó los cómics. Así es que fue muy divertido. Eso llegará a fines de febrero... tenemos algún tipo de aventuras allí que, con suerte, ayudarán a preparar a los fans para que estén listos para la próxima película".

En cualquier caso, ocurra lo que ocurra, los fans pueden todavía disfrutar de "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" cuando llegue a los cines el viernes 17 de marzo.

La estrella de "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" Grace Caroline Currey ha compartido su experiencia sobre cómo convertirse en un superhéroe para la película de DC Comics con 'The Direct'.

Para aquellos que no notaron el interesante cambio en la familia Shazam esta vez, a diferencia del resto de sus compañeros de reparto, Currey pudo interpretar ambas versiones del personaje: la joven y la súper.

Cuando se le preguntó por qué mantuvo su forma tanto joven como súper, a diferencia de todos los demás en la familia, la actriz mantuvo las posibles respuestas en silencio, aunque describió la experiencia como “realmente única y especial”:

“Bueno, conservo mi apariencia. También tengo un poco más de glamour en mi súper [forma], así es que no sé cuánto cambia realmente mi apariencia. Pero sí, pude interpretar a mi forma humana y a mi forma superpoderosa, que es realmente única y especial, ya que soy la única que pude hacer eso. Y debido a que lo hago, puedo estar con el elenco de niños, así como con el elenco de los adultos, y creo que es una situación agradable para la audiencia inconscientemente, porque tienes un hilo común, ¿verdad? Mary está allí todo el tiempo, de principio a fin”.

Currey señaló específicamente que "el contraste de trabajar con los niños y sus formas adultas" fue "muy divertido":

“... Y en cierto modo creo que... mentalmente, puedes tener un vínculo de, 'Está bien, estos niños y estos adultos, son las mismas personas y este es el mismo grupo', lo cual fue muy divertido al tener el contraste de trabajar con los niños y sus formas adultas, porque los adultos son muy tontos. En todo caso, a veces son más tontos que los niños”.

Ella exclamó que "todos quieren ponerse un traje de superhéroe" y lo divertido que fue cuando sus compañeros de reparto más jóvenes la vieron vestida:

“Bueno, quiero decir, todos quieren ponerse un traje de superhéroe. Creo que fue divertido cuando estaba en el set con mi traje de superhéroe y los niños me vieron por primera vez con el traje. Fue divertido, fue divertido para ellos decir: 'Oh, Dios mío, eres un superhéroe. Vaya, Grace. Mira cómo vas’. Pero no, quiero decir, Dios mío, teníamos mucho que hacer en este set”.

En la película original del 2019, Michelle Borth interpretó la versión superheróica de Mary. ¿Pero Currey pudo hablar con ella antes de asumir esos deberes?. La actriz compartió que "dejó un comentario muy dulce" en su anuncio en Instagram y que los dos hablaron mucho mientras trabajaban en la primera película:

“Sí, fue muy dulce y… cuando hice el anuncio en Instagram, dejó un comentario muy dulce. Y estuvo tan maravillosa en la primera. Tuvimos conversaciones sobre '¿Quién es Mary?' Y ella quería ser consciente, ya que interpreté a Mary en su forma humana, quería ser consciente de en qué dirección iba con Mary y cuál es su comportamiento, así es que que cuando estaba en su forma adulta y estaba interpretando esa versión, llevó a cabo lo que establecí en la forma humana”.

Explicó cómo los adultos de la familia Shazam realmente tenían que "traer la esencia de los niños" en sus actuaciones, algo en lo que trabajó con Borth para darle vida:

“Porque con los adultos, tienen que tratar de traer la esencia de los niños y realmente asegurarse de que lo hagan, porque son adultos, ya no son los niños. Así es que tienes que traer ese misterio. Pero sí, ella fue tan encantadora y me sentí tan considerada por ella en la primera entrega, solo con preguntarme qué quería hacer con el personaje y qué debería hacer con él en forma de superhéroe”.

Cuando se le preguntó cómo se compara su traje con el del personaje de la primera película, Currey admitió que no sabía mucho sobre el atuendo original, pero señaló que el desafío en la primera película era que quienquiera que estuviera en el traje de 'Mary' tenía que usar una falda en los inviernos helados de Toronto:

“…En realidad no lo sé. No sé cómo se sentía el traje [de la primera película] o cómo funcionaba. Sé que el desafío con el primero es que estábamos en Toronto, era invierno y el elenco adulto estaba haciendo tomas nocturnas. Y el traje de Mary no es muy bueno para el invierno, ya sabes, con la falda, y era de manga corta".

En cuanto a su nuevo traje en "Fury of the Gods", admite que diseñar su propio traje fue "una experiencia única en la vida":

“Quiero decir, qué experiencia única en la vida que no mucha gente puede tener, donde diseñaron el traje considerando mi cuerpo, y a mí, y lo que aporté al personaje. Y me encanta que tenga una especie de cuello alto, porque llevo muchos cuellos altos en la primera película. Es muy Mary. Es muy estudioso tener el pequeño cuello”.

Continuó explicando el proceso de creación de su nuevo atuendo y el "baile" que hicieron durante el rodaje:

“Pero sí, el traje en sí y la artesanía que se utilizó para diseñar los paneles de las faldas y el cinturón. Tuve tantos accesorios en los que simplemente modificaron cada parte para llevarlo a donde debe estar. Y ya sabes, escanearon tu cuerpo en 3D, para que cada parte encajara perfectamente y la capa era súper pesada. Entonces, para averiguar cómo estar en el set todo el día con la pesada capa, tenía la rutina de quitarme la capa de mi traje y dársela a los de vestuario, y luego volver a ponérmela cuando era el momento de rodar, y era como un baile. Teníamos un baile y yo estaba en plan, 'Está bien, salimos del set, aquí viene la capa'".

"¡Shazam! Fury of the Gods" llega a los cines el viernes 17 de marzo del 2023.
