Hola, Keri Lynn -- ¡y bienvenida a Smallville!
¡Gracias!

- Shanks returns to Smallville tonight (gateworld.net):
Keri Lynn Pratt Talks Smallville Season 10 and Cat Grant!
September 30th, 2010
Keri Lynn Pratt guest stars on Smallville this Friday as DC Comics character Cat Grant, the new Daily Planet reporter who is the antithesis of Lois Lane. In Episode 10.02: Shield, Clark is a bit overwhelmed by Cat, but when DC Comics character Deadshot sets his sights on her, Clark must step in to keep her safe.
Not only does Deadshot appear in this upcoming episode, Hawkman returns, and we will witness the debut of Hawkgirl. After Lois (Erica Durance) departs for Egypt, the Daily Planet hires a new reporter by the name of Cat Grant (guest star Keri Lynn Pratt) to take her place. An assassin named Deadshot (guest star Bradley Stryker) takes aim at Cat, but Clark learns the man has a dangerous hidden agenda that involves The Blur. Meanwhile, Carter Hall (guest star Michael Shanks; aka Hawkman) turns up in Egypt to keep an eye on Lois, and he tells Lois about his wife Shayera (guest star Sahar Biniaz; aka Hawkgirl). Glen Winter directed this episode, which was written by Jordan Hawley.
We recently caught up with Keri Lynn Pratt to chat with her about this upcoming episode, and how her arc will play throughout the rest of Season 10, which is the final season of this hit CW show. Here is our conversation:
How excited are you to be guest starring on the final season of Smallville?
Keri Lynn Pratt: It's pretty exciting. It was a bit scary at first. The show has a huge fan base, and it's been on for 10 seasons, so it's a big family. But I couldn't have asked for a better experience thus far.
The character of Cat Grant was introduced last season as played by Emilie Ullerup, and she was portrayed differently than she is in the comics. Is your Cat Grant the same character from last season, or is she more akin to the representation that fans are use to seeing in the DC Universe?
Keri Lynn Pratt: I don't know anything about the Cat that appeared last season. This Cat is from the comics. The difference is that I'm not quite as voluptuous as Cat is in the comic books. (Laughs) In the comic books, Cat is a little bit darker. She was an alcoholic. She was a bit more promiscuous. In this one, she has more of a Type A personality. She is a real go-getter. This is probably pre-how she appears in the comics.
Does she at least appear one time with a drink in her hand?
Keri Lynn Pratt: (Laughs) No!
Cat will serve as Clark's partner while Lois is away. Will there be any sparks between you and Tom Welling? And is this appearance in Shield going to lead to a longer story arc as we approach the series' finale?
Keri Lynn Pratt: As far as the arc goes, I don't know where the story is going. I do know that Clark and Cat have...I think that Clark is a little taken back by her at first. He doesn't know how to take her in. She's a little "up in your business". But I think he appreciates her honesty. And her passion for what she does. I think he develops a bit of a soft spot for her. I'm not sure if its romantic sparks on his end. On her end, she is flattered, and so excited to be working at the Daily Planet with a partner like Clark. She gets caught up in his sincerity.
Will your character be involved in some of the conspiracies on the show? Or used more just as a foil for Clark?
Keri Lynn Pratt: I don't know. I really don't. I am not quite sure what is going to happen with Cat. Right now, she is just trying to unfold stories, and she gets herself in trouble. In Episode 10.05: Isis, Cat actually thinks that Lois is the blur. She gets herself in a bit of trouble with that?
How many episodes will you be appearing in?
Keri Lynn Pratt: I don't know an exact number. I will be in Episode 10.02: Shield, and Episode 10.05: Isis. In that episode, I know that Lois embodies Isis, and Cat is convinced that Lois is the blur.
What do you personally enjoy about this character? And how does she differ from Lois Lane in your opinion?
Keri Lynn Pratt: It's night and day with her and Lois Lane. Cat is very conservative. She is determined. She is girly. She is a mother. She has a two-year-old son. She is just so passionate about what she believes in. And that is, she thinks these vigilantes who call themselves superheroes should step out in the light. She will do anything to expose them.
Now that Chloe is temporarily missing, will Cat possibly become the new Watchtower and be interacting with the other superheroes like Green Arrow or Martian Manhunter?
Keri Lynn Pratt: She is, and she does interacted with Green Arrow in Episode 10.02: Shield. I don't know how she will play out, but it is possible that she will be a bit of a watchtower.
Are there any romantic sparks between Cat and Green Arrow?
Keri Lynn Pratt: That is not something that is happening. There are no sparks between Cat and Green Arrow at this point. As far as she knows, he is after her. To kill her.
All of the fans want to know: Have you shot any scenes with Tom Welling in the classic Superman costume?
Keri Lynn Pratt: No! I have not!
Are you lying?
Keri Lynn Pratt: I am not! I don't Lie! I have not seen a costume. I have seen a blue T-shirt and a pair of jeans. The suit does not appear in my upcoming episodes. Not that I have seen.
Do you ever feel compelled to sneak into the writers' room and find out what is going on with the future of the show?
Keri Lynn Pratt: I would love to sneak in there. The writers, unfortunatly, are in Los Angeles. And we are shooting in Vancouver. It would be a bit difficult to sneak into the writers' room.
In your first episode, the extremely popular villain from the comics, Deadshot, is introduced. How is the character portrayed? He's an assassin like in the comics, but does he wear the cool mask and twirl two guns?
Keri Lynn Pratt: Yes. He is just like he is in the comic books. He does all of those things. He is the ultimate bad cowboy superhero. Cat thinks that he is after her.
Is Cat extremely paranoid?
Keri Lynn Pratt: No! She doesn't think that everyone is after her...Everyone is after her! Because she's always putting her nose where it doesn't belong. She is a bit paranoid. She walks around in a bulletproof vest at all times. So, there you go!
Cat is someone that would actually sneak into the writers' room...
Keri Lynn Pratt: Absolutely. Cat would be under the table in the writers' room.}
Why is deadshot trying to kill you in this episode, and how is Clark/The Blur involved?
Keri Lynn Pratt: As far as Cat is concerned, she' s unveiling, or exposing, the superhero vigilantes. So she thinks that, because she has written these articles, and because she has a cover story, they are after her. She thinks that the vigilantes are after her.
In the comics, Deadshot is a member of the Suicide Squad, which was briefly mentioned by Amanda Waller last season, who in the comics is their leader. Jessica Parker Kennedy, who played Plastique in season eight, who is also a Suicide Squad member, is returning this year and they've also announced that Suicide Squad Member Rick Flagg will be introduced in an episode that DC comic book writer Geoff Johns is writing. So is there any more mention of the Suicide Squad or Deadshot's involvement in this episode, and do you know if they will be forming the Squad before this final season is over?
Keri Lynn Pratt: The Suicide Squad is present, or mentioned, in this upcoming episode with Deadshot. I believe that Plastique appears as well. And Cat believes all of these people are after her. She thinks that they are all upset that she exposed them in the article. To her, all of the superheroes and villains, and vigilantes are all the same.
How different are you from Cat? Like Lois Lane, is it nigh and day?
Keri Lynn Pratt: This was a really fun character to play. I am not to the degree that Cat is. I am not conservative, and Type A, and all those aspects that she has. I am pretty determined and outgoing. I do believe what I believe. Those similarities were easy for me to tap into. The difference between Cat and me? I wouldn't stick my nose into absolutely everything. And risk anything to get a story. Those kinds of things were a little off. Cat? Not only is she determined, and wants to get the story, she is also a mother. She does have a softer side to her than a nail biting reporter.
Smallville episode 10.2, "Shield" airs on The CW October 1st, 2010. The episode stars Tom Welling, Erica Durance, Michael Shanks, Justin Hartley, Keri Lynn Pratt, Cassidy Freeman, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Sahar Biniaz and is directed by Glen Winter.

Shanks returns to Smallville tonight
by Chad Colvin Friday - October 1, 2010
For the entire backhalf of Stargate SG-1‘s run on cable’s SCI FI Network, anyone wanting to catch Michael Shanks on their televisions knew that the place to find him was on Friday evenings.
Many things have changed since then. SG-1 ended its run in 2007. The SCI FI Channel rebranded itself as SyFy. And Friday evenings in prime time on the network — once its designated area for its hit shows with the strongest ratings — now belong to Vince McMahon and the WWE Wrestling franchise as WWE Smackdown begins airing tonight.
That being said, you can still find Michael Shanks on Friday nights this season … at least once in a while. Shanks returns to reprise his role as “Carter Hall/Hawkman” on the CW Network series Smallville this evening. It’s the first of at least two appearances this season for the actor.
GateWorld talked exclusively with Shanks when he was a guest at the Creation Entertainment Official Stargate Convention in Chicago in August. Among other topics discussed was tonight’s episode — entitled “Shield.”
Both the Season Nine finale and last week’s premiere feature plotlines involving Lois Lane, who in the finale finally pieced together (for real and not as part of a fantasy or dream sequence) that Clark Kent is definitely not an ordinary guy from Kansas. Events in last week’s season premiere, however, drive Lois to get out of Metropolis and accept a job for the Daily Planet’s bureau in Africa. Enter Carter Hall, who helps Lois cope.
“It’s the second episode of the season,” Shanks said. “Carter Hall has an in-depth conversation with Lois about her place in Clark’s life. And about how difficult it is to be a superhero-type in today’s world. And how that superhero-type’s partner figures into that.”
Shanks last appearance on the series, in May’s Season Nine finale “Salvation”, was little more than a small cameo in a scene which included many others in the extended DC Comics universe. That scene also featured Stargate Universe actress Alaina Huffman who briefly reprised her role as “Black Canary.” Tonight’s episode promises to feature Shanks much more prominently.
And, as stated earlier, there’s at least one more appearance for the actor on Smallville still to come.
“They asked me to come back again, for episode eleven, I think,” Shanks said. “I don’t know anymore because they haven’t started writing it yet. But it will film in November, and should air as part of the mid-season cliffhanger.”
Smallville airs tonight at 8 P.M. Eastern (7 P.M. Central) on the CW Network.

- Introducing Smallville's Cat Grant: Keri Lynn Pratt! (K-Site):
Smallville's CAT GRANT Is Stirring up Trouble in Metropolis
By Jenna Busch, 01 October 2010 03:06 pm ET
At this summer's Comic Con, Smallville announced that the role of reporter Cat Grant would now be played by Keri Lynn Pratt. (In Season 9, she was played by Emilie Ullerup.) In this week's episode, 'Shield,' we'll finally get to see her. We got a chance to chat with Pratt about her role, coming back in the episode 'Isis,' her interaction with Clark (Tom Welling) and Lois (Erica Durance) and what sort of trouble she gets herself into. In the promo for 'Shield,' Pratt's Cat shoots a stun gun, fires an air horn and talks about a failed car bomb. Ah, Deadshot. You naughty boy. Pratt also gives us a taste of what we'll see when she returns later in the season and teases the appearance of Godfrey.
Newsarama: It was a huge announcement that you would be playing Cat Grant at the San Diego Comic Con this summer. So how has fan reaction been since the news broke?
Keri Lynn Pratt: It's pretty crazy because Comic Con happened just two days after I got up to Vancouver and started shooting, so it was all a bit of a whirlwind. But it's pretty exciting. I didn't realize, I don't think, the fan base...how strong it is and how great they are with this so. It's been really fun, seeing everyone's interaction and excitement and all that.
Nrama: I watched the promo and you have a little interaction with Green Arrow (Justin Hartley). Can you talk a bit about what happens with your character in this episode?
Pratt: Well, Cat is kind of always getting herself in trouble. She's quite determined to get her story and what she wants. So she ends up in quite a bit of trouble. In this episode she is set on exposing the vigilantes, as she calls them. The superheroes. So she'll kind of do anything to get there. And so she finds herself in some peculiar situations.
Nrama: I know Cat has some spunk and an assortment of self-defense weapons. Are we going to see any fight scenes?
Pratt: Um, no. [laughs] There're no 'fight' scenes. But there are a few chase scenes.
Nrama: Will there be any references to the earlier Cat appearance?
Pratt: No. I don't think so. I don't know a ton about that. I didn't know that she had previously been on the show. I mean, I read it on the internet after I'd gotten this, that she had been in an episode a few seasons ago. But there is no tie-in to that. There is no reference to that.
Nrama: I had read that you said Cat has a crush on Clark. Can you tell us about the interaction between the two of them?
Pratt: Yeah, I think that she has...I think that Clark...I think she thinks that he listens to her and he's on board with her beliefs, which isn't exactly the truth. But I think that he's kind and she enjoys the interaction with him. I think it's more of a friendship developing between the two of them.
Nrama: Lois is obviously in Egypt now and of course we want to see Cat/Lois interaction. Are you guys going to have any battles?
Pratt: Actually, in the episode 'Isis,' Cat actually thinks that Lois is the Blur. She tries to play that one out and do a little research on that. That will be a fun episode with Cat and Lois interactions. [laughs]
Nrama: I know the character in the comics is pretty intense. So what sort of reporting techniques does Cat use in these episodes?
Pratt: Cat is just ultimately determined. And she will do anything to get the story that she needs to get, whether it involves getting herself into trouble, putting herself in danger...it doesn't matter. She's like, tunnel vision to get her story.
Nrama: The character of Cat has a son. Are we going to see him?
Pratt: You don't actually see the son, but there is reference to him.
Nrama: I know in the comics, Cat is now a foil to Supergirl. Is there any chance that, throughout the season, we'll see Cat interact with Supergirl (Laura Vandervoot) in the show?
Pratt: That I do not know. [laughs]
Nrama: Cat is listening to a radio personality named Godfrey...what can you tell us about that?
Pratt: Yes. Cat...that's kind of like her god. She believes in everything he says. She believes in his theories, his beliefs, and that is kind of her...she uses him as a bit of a mentor for the way she goes about getting her story.
Nrama: Will we actually see him or will it just be the radio for now?
Pratt: Just the radio.
Nrama: How are we setting up Cat's reappearance in 'Isis?'
Pratt: Cat just pops back in. She goes away to, I believe Alaska on a trip. And then she's back for 'Isis,' much to the dismay of Lois. [laughs]
Nrama: So how was the cast to work with?
Pratt: The cast was amazing. Going into a show that's been together for ten years can be a bit intimidating. But Tom is just amazing. The entire cast. Cassidy (Freeman), Justin, Erica...everyone was so welcoming. It was like a big family. They are all so passionate about it and they're all so dedicated to their fans and making the show great that it was such a great energy and experience.
Nrama: I know Cat is being stalked by Deadshot (Bradley Stryker). How much interaction do you guys have and how was it working with Bradley.
Pratt: There is some interaction with him and Bradley was great. He was actually just perfect in this part and he's pretty scary. They were fun scenes to shoot with him.
Nrama: Is there anything else you can tell us about the episode?
Pratt: I don't want to get myself in trouble. I think in this episode, it's fun. It's fun to see Clark's interaction with Cat and Cat, not intentionally, but she gets his wheels turning a little bit about his own self and it's a fun way that it plays out.

Cat Grant Comes To "Smallville"
by Kiel Phegley
Over the course of its epic ten-year run, The CW's Superman-inspired drama "Smallville" has morphed its tone, focus and even cast several times to keep fans engaged. And in the past few seasons, the series has synched up well with the broader plans for DC Entertainment by becoming a place where DC Comics characters from Hawkman and the Justice Society to Amanda Waller and the agents of Checkmate. Tonight at 8:00 PM EST/PST, "Smallville" casts its character net out into both the Superman mythos and the DCU once again as reporter Cat Grant and ace assassin Deadshot both make their series debuts in "Shield."
"Cat has a much different energy than anyone that's on the show right now. It makes it unique and fun and sets a different dynamic for the characters on the show already," actress Keri Lynn Pratt told CBR News about her turn as the feisty reporter who moves in on Lois Lane's turf while the show's starlet is on assignment in Africa. "You first see Cat setting up her desk at the Daily Planet and moving right in like she belongs there. She's very excited to have this job and let the world know her views and what she thinks about exposing the vigilantes, which is what she calls the superheroes. She just jumps right into it, so Clark is a bit taken aback by her at first – her earnestness and her girliness. She's very different from Lois. So it's a lot for him to take, but eventually she grows on him."
While Pratt has appeared in a number of teen dramas on the silver and small screen including "Veronica Mars," "Drive Me Crazy" and Brad Meltzer's "Jack & Bobby," the part of Metropolis' resident prowling reporter is her first on-screen exposure to the world of comics – something the actress prepared for by hitting the funny books.
"I was not aware of Cat Grant specifically before I got cast, but I have done quite a bit of research since," she said. "I think on a show like 'Smallville,' which is obviously based on the comics but happens kind of 'pre-comics,' you can change things up. For instance, Cat Grant in the comics is kind of hard-edged and an alcoholic who's had a really tough life. But for me on 'Smallville,' it's Cat before all of that, so it's quite a different feel for the character."
Pratt explained that the majority of her work in this episode was divided between working with star and executive producer Tom Welling and avoiding the assassination attempts set up by actor Bradley Stryker's Deadshot. Of working with the former, she explained, "I didn't have a ton of expectations going into it because Tom is executive producer, and he has been doing the show for ten years. So I was kind of expecting something completely different from what I got when I was there. He is very grounded and down to earth. He's great to work with and very funny. I never felt like I was acting with an executive producer. I think he does a flawless job at separating the two of those things – so when he's acting, he's completely present as an actor, and when there are decisions to be made behind the scenes, I see none of it. He keeps it all behind the scenes, which is probably pretty difficult to do, but he's definitely figured it out."
As for the Deadshot plot, Pratt expressed excitement along with exhaustion about working on an action adventure show, "I went to stunt school 101 on this episode, and I pretty much couldn't walk by the end of it. I was running, I was harnessed, there were explosions – you name it, I did it. It was grueling. It was awesome. It was a totally different experience than I've ever had."
As with all things "Smallville," the pieces threaded into tonight's episode have planned payoff for the longer arc of the final season. Aside from Cat Grant's investigations and explosions, Lois Lane will interact again with archeologist superhero Hawkman in the desert, and Pratt explained that she'll return later on this season. "It's always fun to have the range with a character and the opportunity to develop it. This character's relationship with Clark evolves in this episode, and then I'll be in the 'Isis' episode where she has a bit more interaction with Lois and she actually thinks that Lois is the Blur. So it's been fun finding those relationship moments with both Clark and Lois, which are obviously very different."
Beyond her turn as Grant, Pratt will head back to films in 2011 playing the lead in the romantic comedy "Dorfman" and shooting the drama "The Trouble With The Truth" alongside a cast that includes former TV Lex Luthor John Shea of "Lois & Clark" fame. "Doing superhero work is like this little community," the actress said.

Introducing Smallville's Cat Grant: Keri Lynn Pratt!
Interview by Craig Byrne
What can you tell us about Cat Grant as she enters the show?
She's Clark's new partner at the Daily Planet. She's just so excited to have the job. She's so enthusiastic and wants to do everything she can to get her beliefs across. She's not looking to either side of her, so she ends up in trouble quite often.
She's quite a fan of Godfrey, isn't she?
Yes. She is. She's a huge fan of Godfrey. She listens to the radiocasts on her desk.
Are you contracted for a certain number of episodes?
I'm kind of off and on for the season. So I don't know, specifically.
How is Cat going to get along with Lois?
They tolerate each other. Maybe. [laughs]
Is there any chance of a romantic entanglement between Cat and any of the characters on the show?
That I don't know.
When you got the role, did you look at any of the comic books?
I did! And I was like "oh my God. I don't look like that." [Laughs] Cat Grant in the comics is voluptuous.
Had you seen any of Tracy Scoggins on Lois & Clark?
I didn't. I kind of went into this a little blindly.
cat grant smallvilleWas it intimidating at all to join a show in Season 10?
No. I didn't really have time to think about it, because I literally got the job on a Monday afternoon, and flew to Vancouver on Tuesday morning, and was in hair and makeup tests, and then shooting... I got thrown into it. Everyone is so warm and so welcoming. They're just amazing. It's been great.
