This week's new episode of Gotham, "Strike Force," not only introduces Michael Chiklis as new no-nonsense GCPD Captain Nathaniel Barnes, but also 15-year old Natalie Alyn Lind (The Goldbergs) as DC's Silver St. Cloud - famed socialite girlfriend of Bruce Wayne.

It's been a big season for Bruce so far. He discovered his father's secret cave, fired Alfred, rehired Alfred, got held at knife point by proto-Joker Jerome - it's been quite hectic. But now it looks like love might be in the air for Master Wayne. I recently spoke to Gotham star David Mazouz and new face Natalie Alyn Lind about Silver St. Cloud, what to expect from this new side of Bruce's life, and *gulp* what Selina might think about all this.

"Bruce has a lot of things on his plate right now," Mazouz said. "He has his training side. He’s got the 'I’m going to take down Wayne Enterprises' side. And of course the “Who killed my parents?” side. There’s all that stuff."

"And then there’s the side of…I met this girl," Mazouz laughed.

Natalie Alyn Lind couldn't delve too much into her character at this point except to say that she's "just sort of the girl next door" at the moment. "And by girl next door, I mean mansion. Mansion-slash-penthouse next door," Lind added. "She and Bruce are becoming friends. Maybe a little bit more."

Silver being from the same world of wealth and privilege makes things more comfortable for Bruce. "He knows who she is," Mazouz said. "With Selina, she came so far out of left field for him. He’d never really had any contact with anyone from the streets of Gotham before. With Gotham, there’s the extremely low class and there’s extremely high class. They don’t interact a lot. So it came a shock to him when he met Selina."

"When Silver comes along, she’s also a socialite. Also a trillionaire," Mazouz laughed. "It’s definitely more comfortable. But then again, she’s still a girl and Bruce hasn’t really developed any flirting skills yet."

"It’s fun because I’ve know David for about four years now," Lind revealed. "My sister worked with him on a movie called Dear Dumb Diary. So it’s fun to finally be working with him. And we joke a lot because at the end of almost every scene we’re in together we have this really awkward eye contact. So we just stare at each other. And it’ll last for a good 20 seconds. But then we laugh at the end of it. He’s the best."

So what does Selina make of Silver? She's tough, but she can't be happy about Bruce having a new girl in his life. "That’s sort of one of the things that starts playing out in this storyline," Lind said. "Cat stars getting kind of jealous because Silver’s not only a new girl but she’s very similar to Bruce. And so you might start to see a more sensitive side to Selina because she gets upset over him finding someone who's so opposite from who she is."

- 'Firefly' enciende Gotham (TVInsider):
'Firefly' enciende Gotham
Por Damian Holbrook 16 Octubre, 2015 1:34 pm

If you think Gotham has been on fire since it returned for Season 2's "Rise of the Villains," just wait. Not only does Monday’s tremendous mythology-expanding episode (8/7c, Fox) heat things up on the Theo Gallavan (James Frain) front, it literally starts to burn down the city with the introduction of DC Comics’ Firefly. And for the first time since the character was introduced back in 1952, we’re getting a female version of the arson-happy baddie.

“I actually had no idea I would ultimately be playing a villain,” confesses Michelle Veintimilla, who kicks off a two-part appearance as Bridgit Pike, a parentless girl-turned-indentured servant to two arsonists called in to do a hot load of dirty work for Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor). “It wasn't until my first fitting with costume designer John Glaser that I discovered I'd be portraying the notorious [Firefly]! It was a huge surprise for me.

Once clued-in, Veintimilla says she “immediately starting reading up on the different incarnations” of the supervillain “and quickly realized that Gotham was doing their own take on the character…a new, badass, female version!” A bit daunted by the task (“especially since I've been afraid of fire my whole life!”), the actress—who previously starred in The Chair contestant’s Shane Dawson’s film Not Cool—was relieved to hear from the episode’s writers that the role would be more than just a troubled teen with a flame-thrower. “Bridgit's story goes beyond what you would expect. I'm really excited for everyone to see her story unfold and witness her transformation. It was incredibly empowering to get to play her as an artist and woman.”

Part of that evolution is thanks to one of the nascent troublemakers already on the canvas, young Miss Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova). After being bullied into joining the incendiary family business by her abusive “brothers,” the tormented, sheltered Bridgit gets a little pep talk from her cat-like old friend from the orphanage, and it is this bonding moment, Veintimilla says, that ignites in Bridgit the desire to take back some of her own power. "You get to see her [change] right before your eyes. She starts out timid, meek, and deathly afraid of her brothers, and ends up transforming into a human firecracker."

As you can see in this exclusive photo above, Bridgit’s costume, like all of Gotham’s getups, is pretty damn cool. On the outside, at least. “Since I handled real fire on set, my costume consisted of many layers of fire-retardant fabric. It’s very hot inside the suit,” Veintimilla admits, adding that the homemade version from Monday’s episode will actually change over the course of her appearances. Much like the character. “These two episodes arc her story before she becomes the full-fledged villain," she offers. "I'm excited to see what her actual villain costume will look like when we get there.”

Knowing this show, it’ll probably be scorching.

Estrellas de "Gotham" hablan sobre los orígenes de la 'Firefly' femenina y sus vínculos con 'Catwoman'
Por Eric Goldman & Matt Fowler 19 Oct, 2015

Monday's Gotham will introduce the first-ever female Firefly, played by Michelle Veintimilla. The Firefly "origin" arc will be a special two-night event beginning with the episode "Scarification" and continuing next Monday, October 26th, with the episode "By Fire."

In the first installment, Bridgit Pike (Veintimilla) is enslaved by her brothers, a notorious gang of arsonists, and forced into the family business. But when she catches the eye of old friend Selina Kyle, the young Catwoman and the soon-to-be-Firefly team up to put Bridgit’s fire-starting skills to good use.

IGN recently visited the set of Gotham and spoke to star Camren Bicondova and guest Michelle Veintimilla during the time they were filming their first scenes together. Here's what the two actresses had to say about Selena and Bridgit's history and what might cause the young Pike sister to transform into a flame-throwing pyromaniac.

First off, Selena and Bridgit are actually pretty close. "The characters grew up together," Bicondova told IGN. "But then we kind of parted ways for a while. So when we come back together it's nice because I personally never thought Selena would have an old friend because she is so guarded. But to get to work with Michelle and be with another character who knows Selena's past is very interesting."

"And it's great for Selena too because she doesn't have anyone she connects with. She can connect with Bruce, but he's a boy," Bicondova laughed. "And to be honest he also lives in a totally different world. So to have someone who comes from Selena's world and is a girl is really cool."

So what causes Selena and Bridgit to reunite after so many years? Veintimilla shared the answer. "Selena and Butch need some arsonists to get a job done for them and those arsonists are my character's brothers," she said. "So that's how I'm introduced, sort of as their tortured sibling. I'm the Cinderella of the story. Bridgit knows about their work, but she's also afraid of the fire, for sure. But then they force her to do some jobs and she's scared at first, but Selena helps her gather her confidence and tells her to be strong."

"She really does make a big turn," Veintimilla continued. "She starts out very meek and mousey, and jumpy about everything, and then she really changes completely. She just jumps into the deep end."

So we know Bridgit interacts with Selena and Butch. But does she cross paths with any other Gotham-ites? "I do have an encounter with the GCPD," Veintimilla revealed, "but I can't spoil any of that right now. Most of my scenes are with Selena and she sort of takes me under her wing and tries to toughen me up. They have a history together. They knew each when they were really young and so she knows my backstory and I know hers. And I think she's very surprised to find me in the place where I'm at when the story begins. I think that makes her want to help me because she knows I'm better than this. And my character's also surprised where Selena's wound up."

While Veintimilla acknowledges that perhaps not everyone is happy with the Firefly gender-swap, she's proud and thrilled to be playing the role. "I'm happy that they've gone with a female Firefly for the show, bringing some female energy into the mix. Females are fierce and so I'm excited to represent that."

Said show creator and executive producer Bruno Heller in a released statement, “We decided to make Firefly a woman because we wanted to describe how even a warm, loving and compassionate person can turn to the dark side when life pushes him or her that way. She's not driven by testosterone-fueled aggression, but by a burning sense of injustice. Michelle Veintimilla brings warmth and vulnerability to the role that conceals a steely core of strength and courage.”

- No confundáis la Strike Force de "Gotham" con el Strike Team de "The Shield" (zap2it):
No confundáis la Strike Force de "Gotham" con el Strike Team de "The Shield"
Por Greg Braxton, 19 Oct, 2015 02:10 PM

This season of “Gotham,” FOX’s drama about the origins of Batman and some of his criminal rivals such as the Penguin and Catwoman, has been subtitled “Rise of the Villains.”

But a recent episode saw the arrival of a new character obsessed with law and order that might cause those bad guys more than a pit of problems.

The new cop on the beat is Capt. Nathaniel Barnes, a tough-as-nails police chief who has been brought in to clean up the Gotham City Police Dept. by organizing a strike force. Barnes is even more formidable because he’s being played by Michael Chiklis, an actor who has brought a force-of-nature fierceness to several projects in the last two decades.

Chiklis is ideally suited to the role because of his resume: He is best known for his role as renegade cop Vic Mackey in FX’s landmark drama “The Shield,” a portrayal that won him an Emmy. Previously, Chiklis was more of a good-guy lawman, playing the lead role in ABC’s “The Commish.”

The actor also has considerable cred in the superhero genre: He played the Thing in two Fantastic Four movies (2000’s “Fantastic Four” and 2007’s “Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer”) and a family man with superhuman powers in ABC’s short-lived “No Ordinary Family” in 2010.

In an interview from his apartment in New York where “Gotham” is filmed, Chiklis talked about diving in the “Gotham” universe, playing good cops and bad cops, and the continuing clamor for a return of Vic Mackey and “The Shield.”

Question: So you’re back on the beat.

Michael Chiklis: This seemed like a perfect hybrid of familiar genres for me. Obviously a cross between cops and robbers, and the superhero genre. This was a natural for me. The slipper just fit.

How did this come about?

My agent asked if I wanted to meet with (“Gotham” creator Bruno Heller). I thought, this is a really well-made show with a terrific cast and production. It just seemed like something fun to be involved in, and a bit of a combo platter for me.

How would you describe Barnes? Is he a good cop or a bad cop?

That’s what I thought was interesting about this guy. He’s a law-and-order zealot. He believes in the rule of law and the letter of the law. What you’ll find out down the line are the reasons he is that way.

The name of this season is “Rise of the Villains.” Up until my entrance, there really have been the bad guys running amok in Gotham. Barnes is a counterbalance and an answer to all this calamity. He’s brought in as an ally to lawman James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) — Barnes sees Gordon as the hope of the future of law enforcement in Gotham, but he’s also concerned about what the kid is slipping into, which is the end-justifies-the-means kind of law enforcement. Barnes is adamantly opposed to that.

Given the role you played in “The Shield,” that is so ironic.

That’s what I thought. Let’s go to the other side of that coin and see how that feels. There’s some really familiar stuff here, but it’s a definitely different world. “Gotham” is heightened, not the same tone or tenor of “The Shield.” This is an entertainment, heightened comic-book fare. It’s fun and I’m having a great time with it.

Were you already familiar with the show?

Yes. I was watching last season with my wife, and we were saying, “This looks like a feature film, it’s beautifully shot and really is a tremendous production.”

“The Shield” ended in 2008. What are your perspectives on that show now?

I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about the past. I’m very proud of the accomplishments that “The Shield” represents, historically and otherwise. I loved that experience but I’m always a person that is looking ahead. Also, I’m the kind of person who likes to consider a body of work. I hope people look at my career as a body of work, and that Vic Mackey is just one of the characters that people look to and say, “That goes on the highlight reel.” I feel like a lot of my best is ahead of me.

Ever since that show ended, there’s been buzz about a possible reboot or sequel.

It’s certainly the No. 1 question I’m asked in social media, or walking around on the street. There seems to be a real desire by fans for that character to live on. I get asked all the time, “When are you playing Mackey again?” It’s flattering and frustrating. Shawn Ryan (who created the series) and I have discussed it — there’s definitely an idea for a feature film there. There would have to be a confluence of things that would have to come together in order to make that happen. Whether it will actually happen, I have no idea. Is it possible? Sure. Will it? I don’t know.

“Gotham” offered a new twist on DC Comics villain Firefly in its Oct. 19 episode, reimagining the traditionally male pyromaniac as Bridgit Pike (Michelle Veintimilla), the sister of a gang of arsonists who are enlisted to do a dangerous job for Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) — and by extension, Theo Galavan (James Frain).

At first unwillingly roped into helping her brothers, Bridgit soon comes to enjoy the adrenaline rush that comes with her dangerous mission, which makes for a steep learning curve, Veintimilla tells Variety: “She’s doing all of these things for the first time — she’s seen her brothers do it but she’s never actually handled fire… [so] she is scared. Because she’s testing her limits and she’s learning, she doesn’t really know her strengths yet and what the limits are, so she makes mistakes, and some of them end up being destructive.”

That’s evident in her accidental murder of one of Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Captain Barnes’ (Michael Chiklis) new GCPD recruits, which will put Bridgit in the crosshairs of the GCPD strike force going forward. Despite that fatal mistake, Veintimilla thinks that deep down, Bridgit has good intentions: “She has this flamethrower and she has these resources and she sees the injustices happening in Gotham so she decides to take things into her own hands. There’s a lot of goodness in Bridgit — she’s actually trying to do good, so I think that’s where the aggression begins.. I think it comes from a real passion to right the wrongs in Gotham.”

Bridgit’s friendship with Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) is another pivotal aspect of Firefly’s journey, and will affect both women in notable ways, according to Veintimilla. “It’s really important because they both knew each other when they were very young, as orphans in the Narrows, and they know each other’s history. I know her mother’s story and she knows my story … there isn’t really anything to hide from each other,” she notes. “I think we’re both really surprised where the other’s ended up — I’m so taken by how incredibly independent and strong Selina is and she’s so shocked that I’ve ended up as this defeated young woman because she knows better; she knew me when I was young and she knows that there’s more to me than that. We can’t hide anything from each other and I think that’s what makes it so special and real and honest.”

Bridgit’s mission to recover an ancient knife also ties into Theo’s mysterious vendetta against the Wayne family — a rivalry that apparently stretches back centuries, when five families, including the Wayne, Elliot and Dumas clans, ruled Gotham. Things apparently got messy when Bruce Wayne’s ancestor, Celestine Wayne was found in an illicit embrace with Caleb Dumas, despite being promised to the heir of the Elliot clan. Celestine insisted that Caleb forced himself on her, resulting in the Wayne family seizing the Dumas family’s holdings and destroying their reputation, forcing them to change their name to Galavan.

Caleb had his hand cut off by the stolen blade as punishment, before being exiled overseas, where he entered a religious sect “founded by his family’s patron saint” — best known to DC Comics fans as The Order of St. Dumas. In comics canon, the sect was established as an offshoot of the Knights Templar, which was responsible for creating the warrior known as Azrael, a champion who served as the order’s assassin. One version of Azrael is known to comic fans as Jean-Paul Valley, a vigilante who temporarily replaced Bruce Wayne as Batman in the ’90s, but the name can be bestowed upon any champion belonging to the sect — and since “Gotham” executive producer Danny Cannon recently told Den of Geek that Azrael is “a really good long, slow-burning origin story” that will be introduced in season two, it’s not too much of a stretch to suspect that Theo Galavan could become another version of Azrael in “Gotham” this season.

Many Batman fans have speculated that Theo and his sister could be tied to the comics’ recent Court of Owls storyline, which also involves a secret society comprised of Gotham’s wealthiest families, and the introduction of the Order of St. Dumas doesn’t necessarily negate that speculation, with “Gotham” showrunner Bruno Heller telling ComicBook.com that he plans to utilize the Court of Owls at some point during “Gotham’s” run:

“The Court of Owls is deep, deep, deep Gotham mythology. The comic book fans know about it, but I would suspect the larger audience is not so familiar,” he noted. “We are absolutely going to explore that world down the line. Looking at the longevity of the show, we have to hold some cards back, we can’t just throw all of the elements, all of the story at once … The long arc of the show is Bruce Wayne’s journey of discovery down into the depths of the physical and meta-physical world of Gotham. The Court of Owls is a brilliant conceit that will absolutely be part of our storytelling. I just won’t tell you when.”

Whether Theo becomes Azrael or another Batman villain, it’s safe to say that his intentions for Bruce aren’t particularly friendly, with “warriors like this city has never known” currently heading to Gotham to exact their revenge against the Wayne family. It looks like Jim Gordon will have his work cut out for him as the rise of the villains continues.

Tonight's episode of Gotham was fairly momentous. Normally, we'd be writing a few articles just about the debut of a new villain, as Firefly made her first appearance, even donning a full costume for the occasion. But with all the mythology packed into the episode, there's more on our minds about Gotham than ever before.

A key piece of that mythology was the reveal that the Galavan family is really of the Dumas line, and that the Order of St. Dumas is involved in their scheme of revenge against Gotham in general and the Wayne family in particular. Of course, in the comic books, where the Order of St. Dumas goes, typically their chief warrior follows, and that means Azrael could come to Gotham in some form, and very soon. We asked Gotham EP John Stephens about the Order of St. Dumas and their warrior vigilante, and he was surprisingly candid.

"We will be going deeper into the Order of St. Dumas over the next run of episodes, and it will continue to play an evolving role for the rest of the season," Stephens told ComicBook.com exclusively. Of course, there was a second half, and when I asked him about the link between St. Dumas and Azrael, he blew my mind. "And yes, we wouldn’t be telling an Order of St. Dumas story without also intending to tell an Azrael story. Just keep watching.”

Now many people think of Azrael instantly as Jean-Paul Valley, the character that took over for Bruce Wayne as Batman when his back was broken. But that's not the only Azrael in the comics; several have been shown on-panel, with another, Michael Lane, taking up the mantel and being quite big over recent years, even making it into a couple of Batman: Arkham games. We know we're seeing some form of Azrael on Gotham, but what form will that take?

The most likely thing we'll see here are a more general warrior class of St. Dumas followers. They'll be prototypical Azraels, maybe even warriors who are training and competing to be the great champion, rather than a single character. That jives with the comics, where the Order has had larger forces of Azrael-in-training type soldiers (whom the current Azrael then often leads). It also fits in great with what the Order priest tells Theo Galavan at the end of the episode:

"The day of redemption is at hand. Our brothers are crossing the ocean now, warriors unlike this city has ever known," he says. That's a great indication that it'll be a larger force, rather than a single assassin.

The comic book Azraels have also followed different factions of The Order, with the two most famous ones both stemming from splinter groups, each of which broke off from the main group after a major failure by one of the champions. What we could see, then, is the formation or origin story of one of these splinters. Most likely, though, it'll be a version a little closer to the Michael Lane fanatic and a little further from the utter lunacy of Jean-Paul.

Any way you slice it, though, we can exclusively confirm this vigilante warrior will be seen on the small screen, and years before Batman ever makes it to the show. Expect someone with a cross on some chainmail armor, and maybe even a flaming sword or two, in the near future. This is the "Rise of the Villains" season, so don't expect them to be very nice, either. After all, the priest continued, "Gotham will be redeemed in blood, and Bruce Wayne will die."

Uh-oh.

Entrevista con Erin Richards
Por starrymag | 19 Octubre, 2015

Q) You often attend fan conventions like Comic Con and New York Comic Con. Why is attending these events important to you?

A) I love attending those events. Just getting to meet all the fans is the reason we do the show. We wouldn’t be there without them so it’s nice to be able to shake their hands and hear their stories. I like to hear the storylines they are enjoying and the panels are like a hint of all those people in one room enjoying it together. That’s kind of why we do that.

Q) Barbara has had a shift this season. How do you feel a bout this new diverse side to your character?

A) It’s amazing! To be able to bring a character from a place of goodness into badness is such a joy because you get the time to do a whole range in one show, which is really rare. In terms of playing a villain, it is so exciting because you get to have fights and go to more extreme places of the duality. I love playing her as a villain. It’s a real joy.

Q) Did the writers approach you to discuss this new change in Barbara?

A) We talked about this from the beginning. She had these dark elements to her like the drinking and drug taking. Her relationship with Jim (Ben McKenzie) was always was rocky and those were the early warning signs. She would spiral down and then murdering her parents was this gateway into the new dark Barbara.

Q) You have gotten more involved with fighting this season. Talk about taking on stunts this season?

A) The first fight scene I had was with Morena [Baccrin] (who plays Dr. Leslie Thompson). We were having an amazing day of doing the fight together. Norman is our fight director and he is fantastic. He’s always on set and looking out for us. It was a really brilliant first fight scene to do on “Gotham” because Morena and I get along so well. I explained it to someone that it is like dancing because you are looking after each other even though you are looking like you are ripping each other a part. You are carefully choreographed dancing with someone. It is a really fun, enjoyable thing to do. I love doing fight scenes. In Episode 8, that is a really big episode for me and there is a lot of stunt work in that. I have a fantastic stunt double, Nikki! I can’t say what she does, but it is incredible!

Q) What is your favorite moment of Barbara going from good girl to bad girl?

A) I would say Episode 8 because the whole episode was a joy for me. I can’t reveal what happens in it, but there is some incredible stuff between me, Ben and Morena. It’s the Barbara, Jim and Leslie love triangle and the outcome of that is pretty shocking.

Q) You have talked a bit about the transformation, how has the feedback been from playing this mischievous character?

A) The feedback has been great! People found it hard to sort of understand who Barbara was in season one and I understood that because she didn’t really have enough of a motive. I think people were confused as to what she was about and that confusion was understandable because she didn’t really know what she was about. She wanted to be with Jim, but there was obviously this incredibly dark personality hidden under what she was portraying to the world. So, I think people didn’t really latch on to her because they didn’t really understand her. Now, the fans have really kind of responded to what happened to her and who she is becoming. I really feel grateful people have really stuck by her and love her as a character. It was kind of hard when people didn’t like her because I liked her so much and saw the potential in her. I am grateful to the fans who have stuck with her all this time and, hopefully, now they are getting something out of it that they can relate to a little bit. It’s kind of been a really amazing ride and being at New York Comic Con kind of helped me meet all the fans and hear their feedback about that. So, it was really lovely.

Q) Were you sad the storyline with Montoya ended so abruptly?

A) Vicky [Cartagena] was such an incredible actress and we had a really great time together. I think the unfortunate thing with this organic story telling is that sometimes some characters don’t organically fit in. I know that from acting in other shows where you may not love the character and other times may be a fantastic addition to the show. Sometimes the storyline just doesn’t facilitate the character moving on. We were really sad to lose Vicky, but that is how it is in TV, unfortunately.

Q) Is Barbara’s motivation solely Jim or can she successful bring out the dark side in him?

A) I think her motivation is to basically bring Jim into the dark side she is inhabiting and kind of enjoying. Her relationship with Jim is strong because she feels like there is something there even though what they were acting out before may not have been completely truthful to both of them. She was in there and she saw in him the darkness that she is now kind of inhabiting. First of all, she wants to bring Jim in and then after that she’ll make it her mission to bring the whole world into that dark place.

Q) Talk with relationship with Theo and Tabitha. Is there genuine affection or an underlying motivation?

A) Right now that threesome is playing out because each of those people can gain something. So, from Barbara’s point of view, her super power (if you will) is that she can sense and play off of anyone’s weakness. So, when she meets Galavan (James Frain) she knows straight away that he wants to be on top. He wants to be the new king in Gotham. She wants to play off that weakness and use it to her advantage. The same with Tabitha, she is using her, but if you were to pick one of those characters that Barbara is more intrigued by it would be more of an affection and infinity for Tabitha that she is a strong woman she can learn from. With Galavan, it’s more like she’ll use him until he is no longer necessary. It’s a really fun one to play and Jessica Lucas and James Frain have been the most fantastic people to have this new relationship with. I love working with them.

Q) Do you think that Barbara can be redeemed?

A) Killing your parents is pretty dark. I believe anyone can be redeemed and everyone deserves redemption. I think the hard thing is that once you are redeemed, you can still go backwards.

Q) Who have been some of your favorite villains on the show?

A) Well, we have some big villains coming out this season. We have the introduction of Firefly, which is a fantastic new villain. We have Mr. Freeze coming. Mad Hatter is coming. There are so many villains coming this season because obviously it is the rise of the villains storyline. There is a lot to look forward to!

Q) You are a part of social media. What has it meant to you to get that immediate fan feedback?

A) It’s fantastic! We always live tweet during the show. Seeing how fans instantly react to things on the screen is just wonderful. I’m able to reply to any comments they make and we like to have little banter between the cast. I think everyone enjoys it and it is a really fun way to engage with the fans.

Q) What have you taken away from working on the show?

A) I think the biggest thing I’ve taken away is the family we have created. I know it might sound a bit cheesy, but I just love and respect our cast, crew and producers so much. They look after us and everyone works so well together. It’s a very well oiled machine and it’s just such a pleasure to be a part of. Every day is a real joy to go and work there.

Q) Is there anything else you want to be sure we share with fans about Barbara this season?

A) Episode 8 is a huge one for Barbara and fun for people to watch if they are enjoying her development. I read these scripts and like every single week…When Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) was stabbed, I stood up and threw my script on the floor and screamed, “No Way!” It was just such a shock. I think we did a really good job last year, but I think this season we knock it out of the part. Every single week and every script is amazing. I would say look forward to everything!

- GOTHAM se convierte en más 'caótica' y 'mayor que la vida real' (newsarama):
GOTHAM se convierte en más 'caótica' y 'mayor que la vida real'
Por Lan Pitts, 21 Octubre 2015 Time: 03:30 PM ET

Fox's Gotham has changed the way it's approaching the Batman prequel story, and the changes aren't stopping with the first few episodes. At New York Comic Con, Newsarama sat down with several of the cast members of the Monday night series, along with executive producer John Stephens, to talk about the "Rise of the Villains" as they put it.

One of the more recently introduced villains, Edward Nygma is beginning to feel the call to this darkness according to actor Cory Michael Smith.

“Dark Nygma is a catalyst for the things that he wants which is attention from Kristen [Kringle], love, a date. So he’s just going to be pushing him to man up and take chances.”

Robin Lord Taylor, who plays the crime lord on the rise Oswald Cobblepot, explained a bit more about he and Nygma’s delicate friendship and how it will work this season.

“I mean, yeah with the rise of the villains that generally implies that we’ll have to interact with each other,” said Taylor. “Since we’ve already met in the first season we come back into each other’s lives in an excited way.”

“A very exciting way,” Smith adds. “You know fate will have it so Edward and Oswald meet again. So we run into each other at an interesting place. Edward knows exactly who Oswald is and Oswald could care less. Edward is such a fan and as we see his evolution in the next few episodes, because of that bad Nygma sort of scurrying him along he’s going to be interested in talking to Oswald.”

“From Oswald’s standpoint, he’s always collecting allies,” Taylor said.

Due to the fact that they’re not in the final form and full villains just yet, the question was asked how do the actors know when to embrace their darkness or when to reel it back.

“I think a lot of it is circumstance,” Taylor replied. “You know it’s a lot of how the city influences people and how it forms the people and the choices that they make….sometimes they have no choice but to become darker and more ruthless to survive in the city.”

“And there’s really exciting thing happening with me which is a tug-of-war by the same character,” Smith added. “Having made Edward a bit of a brighter character, really joyful and gleeful, I have this other part now that’s pulling him down. This was unleashed because he took this drug of killing someone.” He gave the writers credit as well and mentioned that they give them hints of what their characters need and want.

Next up was newcomer to the show Michael Chiklis and Executive producer John Stephens, where Chiklis expanded on his relationship with Ben McKenzie’s Jim Gordon.

“Well Captain Barnes is a battlefield commander, he’s not a desk jockey. He’s the guy that jumps in with a war footing because the villains have run amok.”

He talks about how the criminals have upped their game and slaughtered his predecessor, Sarah Essen. Barnes isn’t the type to tolerate that.

“So I come in as both mentor and also I’m worried for the kid because he’s getting into that brand of law enforcement where the ends justifies the means that my character is absolutely against. You found out why down the line which is really interesting.”

Chiklis then talked about the hesitations he had signing on for the role.

“This is different. There’s a familiarity that it’s hybrid of two genres I spent a lot of time in my career, but it’s also a completely new world. Marvel is sort of almost Grecian in its mythology. It deals with epic themes of good and evil whereas Gotham and the DC comic book world is almost a noir feel. Really delves into the darkness of men’s souls, and I’m really proud to be a part of both of them now. You can take this stuff way too seriously, but this is entertainment and a great vehicle for storytelling. The show looks phenomenal and it’s a great way to tell stories.”

Stephens talked about the change in Barbara and how it works better for the show’s dynamic.

“We changed Erin’s character and let her go down this path and it’s probably one of the most exciting things that we’ve done. The culmination will be the Barbara/Gordon/Thompkins episode, which I think is 8, and it’s bananas.”

Also joining the show this season is James Frain, as “philanthropist” Theo Galavan. His character is still a bit of a mystery and his intentions, big picture wise, are still unknown. It’s obvious he’s out for the long con, but what is his bigger plan? Frain explains that’s just it.

“That is his bigger plan. A rogue billionaire who is obviously narcissistic and a strong point of view feels like a valid hero in the city on the brink of collapse. It allows him to get close to the real power players. That’s his plan. To get close to every one and then [making stabbing gesture] stick it.”

Ben McKenzie, who plays the very troubled Jim Gordon, talked about the storytelling devices that the second season has allowed.

“What’s nice about season 2 is that they’re spooling out longer forms of storytelling. We have this whole serialization that we can do these whole arcs so by the time Jim has figured out that Theo is up to no good, it’s too late. Theo is by far the most sophisticated villain he’s faced at this point. So it becomes a real clash of the titans with some really big repercussions for Gotham.”

Jim and Barbara’s relationship has been one of the focal points of the show and how Jim is handling it. McKenzie explains that Gordon is near the end of his rope mentally.

“He’s holding it together barely. He’s starting to fray a little bit under the pressure and certainly wearing the guilt of what he’s already done having killed a man to collect a debt on the behalf of Penguin to get his job back. He’s starting to see that he’s becoming a little unhinged and that’s only to going to continue when he sees what Galavan is up to.” McKenzie mentions that they keep pushing and pushing Gordon until he might break and realize he longer knows who he is at all. “Each time he pushes forward, he tempts fate.”

In the second season thus far, we’ve seen characters embrace more of their darkness and the city to start developing its pre-Batman rogues gallery, with some of the more trademark names hanging around. What do Frain and McKenzie think the biggest change is from the first season though?

“The writers have called this season the 'Rise of the Villains.' I think it’s because we’re going to make this transition from a world quite like our own to a more chaotic space where you can accept there are super villains that have these larger than real life personalities," said Frain. "That’s sort of the goal with season 2.”

Season Two also shows the evolution of what Gordon and the GCPD will be up against, now that the mob is withering away.

“The crimes families was the old Gotham who did business in a city where everybody knew what the game was. Once they go away, there’s a power vacuum and Penguin steps into that. But there’s also an availability for someone like Theo to come in and burn things into the ground.”

Lastly, Erin Richards who plays the psychotic Barbara Kean and Jessica Lucas, who plays the villainous Tabitha Galavan, a.k.a. Tigress. Richards stated that Barbara’s transformation from mild to murderous was something that was always in the works.

“I think from the beginning there were signs,” she said. “She kinda had that spiral of drugs and alcohol abuse and her relationship with Montoya was obviously very cruel. So I think with this, she can go into a darker place.”

Richards also think that Barbara being redeemed on the show is something she’d like to see, but it could be a long while before that happens.

“Yeah, I think that would be nice, yeah. I think fans sort of want her to have a baby with Jim at some point because then Batgirl comes out. So I personally think it’s so much fun to play in this darkness and much to explore.”

When talking about Barbara and Tabitha’s relationship, Lucas explains the trichotomy between herself, Barbara, and Theo works, but in the worst way.

“Well, it’s what you’ve seen so far. There’s a lot of manipulation between [Theo, Tabitha, and Barbara] and jealousy.”

“There’s a lot of using and manipulating each other,” Richards added. “Also from Barbara’s point of view, if you asked which one she would prefer, I think she would say Tabitha. With her relationship with Galavant, she’s very much like she knows who he is. With Tabitha, there’s a bit more intrigue...a bit more respect.”

At the end of the discussion, Lucas was asked she will become an inspiration for a young Selina Kyle.

“I don’t know...whatever made you think that,” she said coyly. “But no, there was a conscious thought put into her look and how it was going to relate to...someone else.”

- La nueva 'Firefly' de "Gotham" habla sobre el quemarlo todo (THR):
La nueva 'Firefly' de "Gotham" habla sobre el quemarlo todo
Por Graeme McMillan 24 Octubre, 2015 11:00am PT

They say the meek shall inherit the earth, but things are different on Fox's Gotham. Last week's episode introduced Bridgit Pike, the downtrodden sister of the city's most dangerous arsonists who was forced to take up the family flamethrower when one of her brothers met an explosive end. But a surprising thing happened when Bridgit broke her first law — she really liked it.

With this week's episode, "By Fire," continues Bridgit's transformation from mild-mannered Cinderella to the costumed villain called Firefly. Here, THR talks with Michelle Veintimilla, the actress who brings Bridgit to life, about playing with fire and finding herself forced into situations she didn't anticipate herself dealing with.

Bridgit is a character who ends up in a very different place at the end of this episode from where she started last week. How much did you know about her when you got the role?

I didn't know anything about Bridgit being a villain when I was auditioning for the part. I started right away, but the writers were always on set, and there was a lot of downtime. During that time, they brought me up to speed and told me that they wanted to do Firefly, and they wanted her to be female. I actually read a ton on the past incarnations of the character, and then realized that we were doing a brand new take on it.

Did you have a feeling of, "What have I gotten myself into?"

Oh, yeah. I feel like I was really pushed into the deep end. My first day on set, we were doing a lot of stunt sequences — I was running, climbing up ladders, jumping off boxes, crawling through vents, all these things. There was no way that I could've prepared for that. That's the cool thing about this role, and being able to play the villain that Bridgit becomes: I realize that I always had that strength inside me, and now I'm on the other side of it and realize I can do a lot more.

I actually relate to Bridgit a lot. This was my first real role on TV, so in a lot of ways, that fear that Bridgit has in the show was real to me. It was a big set, and I had to handle fire — I had a flamethrower — it was a lot of stuff to deal with. It was very fight or flight, when you're doing it, and that's what happened to Bridgit: all of sudden, you're in it and you just have to do it.

Do you see Bridgit as a role model, even though she's a villain?

I think so. Bridgit has an incredible amount of heart, and she sees the injustices that happen in Gotham, and she feels very passionately about trying to right the wrongs. I think that it's going to be interesting to see what makes her turn bad. It doesn't come from testosterone-based aggression; I think she feels cheated, because she's had the strength all along and hasn't had the chance to really express that. Now she has, and she's going to run with it.

Like you said, Gotham's Firefly isn't like any of the comic book versions. Do you think she'll definitely go bad, or do you think there's a chance that she'll try to fight the injustices in the city?

I honestly don't know. I think she'll turn bad. I think that's the point of it all, that people — especially in Gotham — can start out good and turn bad, you know? What's different about Bridgit is that it comes from a justified place. She's been enslaved to her brothers for who knows how many years, and held captive and she doesn't know any better until she's free. Now she has a chance to test her limits and find out who she is. The options are endless. I have a feeling that she'll come back with a vengeance.

Camren Bicondova adelanta a una 'enfadada' Selina y sopesa esa bofetada
Por Matt Webb Mitovich / 25 Octubre 2015, 2:00 PM PDT

This Monday on Gotham (Fox, 8/7), Selina Kyle strives to help Bridgit Pike aka Firefly cope with her impetuous roasting of a GCPD officer, as well as get out from under her firebug brothers’ thumb. But is this mission too hot for Cat to handle?

This much is certain: The events of this week’s Selina-centric episode threaten to forever change what is already a highly tenuous connection between her and lawman Jim Gordon. “It is one of my favorites,” says Camren Bicondova, who plays Selina, “but I’m also excited for what future episodes bring.”

Here, the 16-year-old actress/dancer surveys the Cat/Firefly bond, teases a fierce face-off and weighs in on the slap heard ’round the Internet.

TVLINE | Is it safe to say we have only scratched the surface as far as Selina’s bond with Bridgit (played by Michelle Veintimilla)?
Definitely. They have a long history together.

TVLINE | Selina never really puts her neck on the line for anybody. What makes Bridgit different?
Well, Bridgit was one of Selina’s first friends, and I think Selina feels bad for her. She knows that Bridgit has the ability to be a very strong, independent girl, so she wants to help her become that. And Selina doesn’t like seeing anybody, especially a fellow girl, being treated badly — Selina is very passionate about that. She isn’t a very violent person, she doesn’t like being violent. So when it comes to Bridgit, Selina wants to help her be able to live all on her own.

TVLINE | Selina obviously isn’t a “people person,” but would you say she is feeling as alone as ever? Not that she’d ever admit it.
I think so. She’s a teenage girl and even though she acts as if she doesn’t need anybody and she can do things on her own, everybody needs friendship. Whether it’s real friendship or if it’s just someone they can talk to and then brush off, everybody needs relationships. And she’s feeling that loss, especially with Alfred telling her not to talk to Bruce anymore. But Bridgit is helping with that. Bridgit kind of came into her life the moment that she was about to feel the ultimate loss, so I think Bridgit is helping her — as much as Selina is helping Bridgit.

TVLINE | You have a really fantastic scene in this episode opposite Ben McKenzie. Can you talk about that a bit without spoiling it?
Oh, thank you. Selina and Gordon make distinct promises to one another, and in this scene, Gordon gives Selina some very bad news and she gets really angry with him. She’s angry with herself also, because she knew that she shouldn’t have trusted him, a cop. She wishes that she had trusted her instincts. Basically, at the end of the scene you wonder if Gordon and Selina’s relationship still exists.

TVLINE | Does that leave Selina poised to take her darkest turn thus far?
Hmmm…. She definitely goes into a dark space, because at the end of the episode she… feels like she doesn’t have anybody to turn to. But I dont think she’ll go in a necessarily “evil” direction. I think she just needs to figure herself out again and remember what she taught Bridgit about being independent. It’s up to the writers and Im excited to see where they take it!
