Danielle Panabaker habla de la S2 de ‘The Flash’, Killer Frost, y ‘Legends of Tomorrow’
Por Dave Trumbore 06 Sept. 2015

Having just wrapped on episode six of season two of The Flash, Danielle Panabaker then flew from Vancouver to Atlanta for Dragon Con 2015 this weekend. She was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule to not only attend some fan panels, but also to talk to a small group of journalists early in the morning. While we tried to get her to slip up and reveal some behind-the-scenes secrets before she had her first cup of coffee, Panabaker was too smart for us.

That being said, she still talked about the Season 2 premiere of The Flash and how the characters will respond to the events of the previous season. There is some episode-specific info for those of you looking to see Caitlin Snow interact more with either Professor Martin Stein (Victor Garber) or newcomer Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten), and all signs point to Episode 7 being pretty epic.

Season two doesn’t exactly pick up right after the events that closed out the first season. Some time passes between the Season 1 finale and the Season 2 premiere to give the characters time to adjust:
“The season premiere will address some stuff from the finale; it’s not like there’s some title card that just says, ‘Six months later.’ We will deal with the singularity and everything that’s going on.”
Since it’s six months later, of course we should expect some new additions to the show. Season two sees the introduction of Patty Spivot, who plays a part-time assistant to Barry Allen in the comics. Fans may get to see her showing up at S.T.A.R. Labs to hang out with Caitlin Snow from time to time:
“I would love that! Shantel is amazing. We’re really, really lucky. The two biggest additions to our cast this season are Shantel and Teddy (Sears), and they’re both so wonderful; they truly feel like they belong on our show. That’s been great.

Shantel and I haven’t actually worked together yet as of episode six, but my understanding is that that will change. I don’t know what context it will be in. Hopefully she’ll come to S.T.A.R. Labs; maybe the two girls can hang out … I think Caitlin needs some girlfriends.”
Fans of Caitlin Snow are certainly intent on seeing her become Killer Frost, so Panabaker commented on that transformation, as well as shooting additional scenes that end up getting cut:
“No one is more excited for Caitlin to become Killer Frost than I am. Unfortunately I don’t know when that will happen on the show. The writers will say, “Well this is what’s going to happen. We’re looking forward to this. This is what we’re thinking.” And then scripts evolve, sometimes they don’t make it into the script as soon as you hope, sometimes we shoot things that don’t even make it into the show.

I think our season finale was [an extra] 20 minutes long, so that’s 20 minutes of stuff that they cut out of storylines. Little things, like they explained how Caitlin asked Barry to go get her wedding dress, and they explained the toilets in the pipeline, and that sort of thing. But since we only have 42, 44 minutes, some stuff just sort of falls to the cutting-room floor. Long story short, I’m useless in terms of Killer Frost. I want it to happen very, very badly. Unfortunately I don’t know that it’s happening yet.”
For those of you who are interested in how the prison’s toilets work – Panabaker says they slide in and out of the wall, by the way – the explanation may show up in a future deleted scene, along with one that featured Caitlin delivering all different types of food to the prisoners.

Season two will also feature some returning villains, though just which ones aren’t confirmed as of yet:
“I know you will see some familiar faces in Season 2.”
And for those of you wondering what the chances for The Flash: The Musical are, Panabaker gives her opinion on it:
“My fantasy is that they’ll incorporate it in more sort of organic ways, like Jesse [L. Martin] and Grant [Gustin] singing in the car, or something like that.”
Fans can expect a new set in episode seven, but Panabaker was careful not to give away any details when asked what particular scenes she gets excited to film:
“Shoot, I’m not allowed to tell you what happens in [episode] seven. We’re shooting six right now and just got the script for seven, and seven’s pretty cool … We have Andrew up this week and he just has such wonderful things to say about the crew. Everybody has such pride in this show and works really hard. Tyler [Bishop Harron] builds these amazing sets. It’s fun to walk on … I can’t tell you what that is either! These new sets that he built are beautiful. It’s cool, my job is cool. They’ve done such an amazing job and it’s exciting to see.”
If you’re waiting to see more interaction between Caitlin and Professor Martin Stein, keep an eye out for episode four:
“We will see more of Professor Stein. In episode four, I get to work a lot with Victor, which is so nice. He’s just the best. He’ll be around for a little while. Obviously Legends is starting their production next week, but he’ll be around for a little bit.”
There’s also chance that Caitlin Snow will show up on the aforementioned Legends of Tomorrow, but like everything else, the timeline isn’t locked down:
“Things change, and it depends. It’s going to be impressive to see how they incorporate, just schedule-wise, everyone working together and crossovers. I would love to. They have huge plans for Legends. Obviously Caitlin’s very close and tied to Firestorm; Captain Cold and Heat Wave originated on Flash, so it would be great to go over there.”
Whether or not Caitlin ever ends up becoming Killer Frost or moonlighting on Legends of Tomorrow, fans will certainly be looking forward to seeing her return when The Flash Season 2 premieres on Tuesday, October 6th at 8pm on The CW.

Last we saw The Flash, a.k.a. Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), he’d accidentally opened up a wormhole, exposing Central City to a whole new world of danger — and we’ll come to learn in season 2 that the world is Earth-Two.

“Year one was all about time travel,” The Flash executive producer Andrew Kreisberg tells EW. “Time travel can be a very tricky concept if done poorly, and we took great strides and worked really hard to make our version of time travel easy to digest for the masses, but still complex and exciting enough for the diehard fans.”

As such, the creative minds behind The Flash are taking the same approach with Earth-Two, “and the concept of the multiverse, and the concept of doppelgängers,” Kreisberg continues. “We’ve been having a lot of fun with that and getting glimpses of Earth-Two probably sooner than people would’ve thought. It’s still Flash. It’s still the same show. It still has those characters and that camaraderie, but our villains are coming from a brand new place and we’re dealing with different concepts, and it’s just really exciting.” Below, Kreisberg introduces us to the new characters coming this year:

Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears)

Known as the first DC Comics character to take on the mantle of The Flash, Jay will act as a mentor to Barry — though their dynamic is akin to the Han Solo/Luke Skywalker one. “There’s a little condescension from Jay,” Kreisberg says. “Jay is a little bit more world-weary and he’s seen a lot. He’s been The Flash for a while, so he’s a little further along in his career. He’s seen a lot of darkness, and it’s jaded him a little bit. He thinks Barry can be a bit naïve about the way the world works.”

In turn, Barry will bring out a new side in Jay. “One of Barry’s greatest gifts — and truly it’s one of Grant’s greatest gifts, too — is he’s got such an infectious energy and such a purity of heart that he makes you want to be a better person,” Kreisberg says. “As much as Barry learns from Jay about being The Flash, Jay learns just as much about being a good person from Barry.”

Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale)

Destined to become the speedster known as Kid Flash, Wally is just an ordinary teenager when he’s introduced in the winter. “I would liken Wally coming in to the way we brought on Colton Haynes on to Arrow,” Kreisberg says. “Just like with Colton Haynes, who eventually one day put on the Arsenal costume, I wouldn’t be surprised if one day Wally West becomes Kid Flash.”

“Part of the season is watching Barry mature and grow up not just as The Flash, but as Barry Allen,” Kreisberg continues. “Suddenly introducing him to a bit of a wayward kid who has some attitude problems and some authority issues and is quick with a sassy remark — all of which is very Wally West — and then watching Wally integrate into S.T.A.R. Labs universe, but also just the world of these characters, is going to be a lot of the fun of the back half of the year.”

Zoom (TBD)

Even faster than the Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh), this season’s big bad isn’t a repeat of last year. “We wanted another speedster as a villain, but we wanted to do something slightly different,” Kreisberg says. “Reverse Flash felt like a warrior, and what we wanted this time was something more akin to a monster. When you finally see Zoom, he looks like a demon, and it’s really scary. It’s more horrific. You should feel like when one of H.R. Giger’s aliens comes in the room. The mask is really amazing.”

Staying coy on who will actually play Zoom — Tony Todd will lend his voice to the character — Kreisberg explains, “Like with Wells last year, he has a very specific agenda and a very specific and very clean reason for doing what he’s doing. When we open the season, he’s a villain of Earth-Two, and now he has access to Earth-One. Yet again, our team has created their own nemeses for the season. Watching how Zoom enacts his plan is the plot of the first nine episodes.”

Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten)

A police officer and potential love interest for Barry, Patty is eager to join Joe’s (Jesse L. Martin) anti-metahuman task force. “She’s got a very specific reason for wanting to fight metahumans, which we’ll learn about during the course of the season,” Kreisberg says. “She’s a science nerd, too. She really loves the science aspect of it, and she and Barry really bond on that level, but she also loves the action.”

“She earns her metahuman fighting stripes in the second episode,” Kreisberg continues. “One of the cool things about Patty is it’s one thing to take on bank robbers, it’s another to take on someone who can turn into poison gas, or another guy who can control the weather. At a key moment early on, Patty is the only cop who stands her ground, and that proves to Joe that she’s got what it takes.”
