The CW had the final season return of “Smallville” (2.9 million, 1.3) as well as the premiere of “Supernatural” (2.8 million, 1.2). Both shows performed well, with “Smallville” up 30% from last year — the only returning CW show to actually climb in the adult demo for its premiere. “Smallville” was down a very manageable 14% from its Thursday debut.

In fact, The CW came in third place — beating Fox and ABC — which is something you don’t see hardly, well, ever.

CW beat out ABC and Fox for the night (sure, ABC was 2/3rds reruns, but Fox was only half reruns, again, even when it wasn’t CW won outright). It look like Smallville had its best outing with adults 18-49 since moving to Fridays.

We don’t normally see Univision data for Friday so it isn’t in the scoreboard above, but it actually came in second with adults 18-49 for the night with a 1.5 rating average.

CW's new Friday pairing of Smallville and Supernatural also got off to a super start, lifting the netlet to a rare third-place finish. Both shows averaged approximately 3 million viewers and a 1.2 rating, besting Fox's Good Guys in its timeslot debut (2.9 milion, 0.9 rating) and repeats of Fox's Human Target and ABC's The Whole Truth.

Strategy of pairing Smallville/Supernatural again on the night paid off.

The premiere of Smallville’s final season won its time period in adults 18-34 (1.2/5), men 18-34 (1.5/6), men 18-49 (1.4/6). Smallville beat ABC and FOX in adults 18-49 (1.3/5).

Smallville delivered The CW’s best performance in the Friday 8-9pm time period in 2 years in total viewers (2.9mil) and adults 18-49 (1.3/5).

The debut of Supernatural scored The CW’s best performance in the time period in 2 years in all key categories, including adults 18-34 (1.3/5), adults 18-49 (1.2/4), men 18-34 (1.5/6), men 18-49 (1.3/5) and viewers (2.8mil).

Supernatural won the 9-10pm hour in men 18-34 (1.5/6) and beat ABC and FOX in adults 18-49 (1.2/4), men 18-34 (1.5/6), men 18-49 (1.3/5).

The CW was #1 on Friday night among adults 18-34, men 18-34 and men 18-49 (1.4/5).

This was the CW’s best Friday in total viewers (2.85mil), adults 18-34 (1.3/5), and men 18-34 (1.5/6) in two years (since 9/26/08, the final Smackdown). It was our best performance in adults 18-49 (1.2/4) and men 18-49 (1.4/5) since the two-hour SMALLVILLE “Absolute Justice” episode in February 2010.
