US, 15de septiembre, 2008 - Con Michael Rosenbaum fuera de Smallville esta temporada, el puesto de Lex Luthor necesitaba llenarse, y ahí es donde entra Tess Mercer. Nombrada como un guiño a Ms. Tessmacher de las películas de Supermán y Mercy de la serie animada de Supermán, Tess llega a Metrópolis como la nueva cabeza de la LuthorCorp y, por extensión, del Daily Planet.
Interpretando a Tess está la actriz Cassidy Freeman, y en una reciente visita al set de Smallville, pude conseguir alguna información de ella sobre cuál va a ser el rol de Tess en la serie. Freeman es muy simpática y extrovertida, que bromea con su compañera Erica Durance ("Lois Lane") antes de que habláramos –Durance hizo un cumplido muy gracioso sobre el culo de Freeman en nuestra entrevista. Tomando asiento en uno de los sillones de la oficina de Tess, Freeman y yo hablamos sobre su personaje y los problemas que traerá a Smallville.
IGN: ¿Hay algún temor cuando entras a una serie que lleva tantos años, así como al entrar en una dinámica que ya existía?
Freeman: Creo que hay temor al empezar cualquier cosa de esta magnitud, pero lo que principalmente supera el temor es el entusiasmo y la oportunidad de entrar en sí misma. Ser capaz de ser parte de un show que que ya tiene un grupo de seguidores tan sólido, para un actor, es una oportunidad increíble, porque es una experiencia garantizada. En estos días muchos pilotos se ruedan y no consiguen salir adelante y es bastante lucha, así es que te ofrezcan algo como esto es simplemente estimulanteand. Así es que todo el temor que tuve, se fue y fue acallado por el entusiasmo. ¡Además, todos los de aquí son estupendos!
IGN: Mientras tanto, tu personaje llega y dirige a todos los de por aquí.
Freeman: Sí, consigo relajarme tras la confianza que ella tiene. Y aunque Tess tenga realmente o no esa confianza, no estoy segura de que nadie lo sepa. Pero aquí [en el Planet], tiene que dejar eso en el aire, para ser capaz de hacer el trabajo que está haciendo.
IGN: ¿Vamos a descubrir rápidamente cómo ella es alguien a la que se le ha dado esa posición en la compañía de Lex?
Freeman: Sí, en los primeros episodios tendrás flashbacks sobre quién es y de dónde viene, antes de que incluso ella conociera a Lex. Y después de eso, ella se fue a trabajar para él. Lo que aún no hemos visto y que supongo que es el caso, es que cuando ella empezó a trabajar para él, ella prometía mucho. Y necesitaba poderosamente un mentor – alguien en el que ella pudiera creer. Alguien que le transmitiera poder. Y así ella comprendió la fuerza que él tenía, aunque fuera buena o mala. Fuerza era fuerza. Y ella aprendió de él. No estoy segura de dónde está su corazón, en términos del bien contra el mal o si está completamente decidido ya – más o menos como al principio, cuando no sabías realmente hacia dónde iba Lex. Bueno, sabías hacia dónde iba Lex, ¡pero no sabías cuándo!
IGN: Y él no lo sabía.
Freeman: Exacto. Esa es una gran manera de situarlo. Creo que tampoco estarás seguro sobre ella al principio. Y por supuesto hay un guiño hacia Ms. Tessmacher y hacia Mercy – Smallville ha tomado ése impresionante giro de mezclar esos dos personajes y de crear un tercero nuevo.
IGN: ¿Así es que Tess no sabe sónde está Lex, correcto?
Freeman: No, no lo sabe. Creo que en algún lugar, por escrito, Lex tiene un tipo de voluntad – "Si algo me ocurriera, todo irá a parar a Tess Mercer." Creo que ella fue informada de eso y le sorprendió el hecho, y que también le ha impactado y dolido que no pueda encontrársele por ningún lado. Aparece como un bulldog, dispuesta a luchar por su… dudo en decir "amo." [Risas] Pero sí su mentor, y alguien a quien echa de menos. Al principio, no creo que a ella le guste este trabajo. No es como si ella estuviera en las filas, esperando que él perdiera el conocimiento y ella pudiera suplantarlo. Creo que le ha caído encima y que tiene que buscar en sí misma la fuerza para aprovechar todo ese poder y esta oportunidad.
GN: ¿Y mientras tanto está intentando encontrarle por sí misma?
Freeman: es una constante en su historia; ella buscándole. Tengo ese asistente llamado Kat y una asistente llamada Eva, y voy a encargarle cosas a ambos para encontrarle. Hay siempre un reloj corriendo para encontrar a Lex.
IGN: Tess también tiene una historia con Oliver Queen. ¿Cómo toma él su nueva posición?
Freeman: No está muy contento con el hecho de que yo haya cruzado al otro lado. Tampoco se va a callar sobre eso. No onstante lo que fuimos en el pasado es lo que nos lleva a ser rivales en el mundo corporativo. y es un juego divertido en nuestro pasado y en nuestro presente; para los dos es como ser el bueno y el malo en el mundo empresarial.
IGN: te he oído decir que Tess tiene una escena de pelea con Oliver. ¿Cómo de buena es peleando?
Freeman: Está muy bien entrenada kick boxer. Y le gusta lanzar unas cuantas armas en un momento.
IGN: ¿Has hecho antes escenas de peleas?
Freeman: He hecho algunas coreografías de lucha, tanto en el teatro como en las películas. Y soy atlética, así es que lo encuentro realmente divertido. Me meto en ello. Para mí, es como tomarme un descanso, ¿sabes? Tienes a todos ese estupendo artista de artes marciales que llega – probablemente podría matarte – y tú estás como, "¡Enséñame como utilizar el bastón!" Y luego lo haces durante un rato, y te sientes fuerte. es siempre más divertido cuando no estás fingiendo. Justin [Hartley] y yo hemos empleado mucho tiempo en ensayar esa escena, así es que ese días, fue como parte de nuestra naturaleza el movernos así el uno con el otro. Me encanta. Siempre estoy realmente excitada y me siento como una niña en una tienda de golosinas cuando consigo tener una escena de lucha.
IGN: Erica me dijo que hay roces entre Lois y Tess.
Freeman: Ellas se enfrentan con frecuencia, porque ambas son mujeres muy fuertes y no confían la una en la otra, para nada. Y ambas conocen del poder de una atractiva, independiente y fuerte mujer y ambas saben que cada una de ellas lo tiene. Freeman: ¡Lo sé! ¡Le encanta mi trasero! A Erica le encanta mi trasero. Publica eso, porque ella adora mi trasero. [Risas]
IGN: ¿Cuál es su interés en Clark?
Freeman: En realidad creo que ella lo llama "periodista novato." Él es el nuevo. Es el chico de las fotocopias, así es que lo trata como tal. Pero también pregunta mucho sobre él, porque él y Lex eran buenos amigos y está convencida de que sabe algo.
IGN: Lex despidió a Chloe. ¿Va Tess a mantener esa puerta cerrada?
Freeman: No, porque Chloe puede hacer un montón de cosas para mí. Conozco a Chloe. Conozco lo de sus habilidades y así ella puede hacer otras cosas para mí y en realidad es una relación interesante, lo que sucederá más tarde. Mis conclusiones sobre las entrevistas:
Peterson--> Parece más una entrevista para sacar los trapos sucios jajaja, esta muy bien, pero me llama la atención que diga que para la temporada nueve esta contratada Allison Mack y Ahron Assmhore(o como se escriba) y alguno más, y que de TOM solo tienen la esperanza... joder...
La ultima de Erica-> Lo dice todo con que Tom se aleja cuando le pregunta lo de la capa, jajaja, yo le daría uno para la JLA, tipo como los de x-men... Eso si, no entiendo porqu no quiere ponerse el traje, bueno lo entiendo si le ponen el de la serie Lois y Clark que lo ves ahora y parece un disfraz, que le hagan uno a medida joder.... Esque si no le ponen le van a reconocer, o si no lo hace, sería subrealista...
Por cierto en ninguna entrevista preguntan lo de volar!!, omisión o olvido?, ya se verá pero creo que ya es hora de que alguien cubra el cielo.

September 16, 2008 - It's a busy month for Sam Witwer. The actor already has played notable roles on Battlestar Galactica (as the ill-fated pilot Crashdown) and Dexter (as an Ice Truck Killer wannabe in Season 1), and now he is leaping into both the Star Wars and Superman legends, premiering as two major characters in those respective universes within two weeks.
Witwer plays Starkiller, the main character in the videogame Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, hitting stores this Tuesday. And a week from Thursday, he will make his debut on The CW's Smallville, as paramedic Davis Bloome, a character who also happens to be the Smallville incarnation of the Superman killing menace known as Doomsday.
On a recent visit to the Smallville set, I watched as Witwer filmed a scene for the series, as he and Alison Mack ("Chloe Sullivan") sat and had drinks at an outdoor café while having a rather intense conversation. Shortly after, Witwer sat down with me to discuss his new character, plus what the experience was like starring in The Force Unleashed.
IGN TV: How's it been jumping onto a show that's in its eighth season?
Sam Witwer: I think it's been easy enough. The fun thing for me is being a character that does not understand this world, therefore, it allows for my mistakes to be more correct than wrong. I don't think this Davis Bloome guy gets superheroes or gets meteor freaks – he doesn't know what any of those things are. He sort of knows what the meteor phenomenon is about, but other than that, this is all completely new. And I think that's a cool thing to have on the show – a fresh pair of eyes to remind the audience that this is all very strange stuff.
IGN: How do we meet him?
Witwer: We meet him through Chloe. Chloe strikes up a very fast friendship with him. He's a paramedic from Metropolis. Chloe and him become close and through that friendship, he gets drawn in to the world of the other characters. He can get moody. He can get a little bit ornery at times. But he also has the capability to be extremely warm and open and vulnerable, and that's what I find most fun about him. He can really open up, especially with Chloe. When he feels safe, he can take that.
And then to take that character and to put him on this path of just absolute destruction… because he's going to sort of slowly piece together what's going on during these blackout periods, and as everyone knows, Davis Bloome is Doomsday. So these blackout periods are probably not going very well for him or anyone involved!
IGN: He's probably not blacking out and volunteering at a soup kitchen.
Witwer: Exactly! He's not blacking out and finding that he just planted a garden.
IGN: Helping the elderly cross the street.
Witwer: That's exactly right. He wakes up… "Where was I?" We're going to make this really nice guy and then we're going to tear him to pieces. What would happen to you if you found out you were the opposite of everything you ever worked to make yourself into? The absolute polar opposite of that. You have this nature about you that you can't control. The realistic psychology of that is something that's very ugly and that's sort of what we're gonna go for. If we do it right, it should be the darkest thing that we've seen in Smallville.
IGN: It must be an interesting character to play, because I assume you want to hint at the darkness underneath, without going too far.
Witwer: I really hope that scenes like the one we just shot help to balance out the character and help create a very balanced individual. The whole thing [at first] was, "He's this really nice guy. He's a really great guy." We kept saying that, but we have no interest in making a sort of vanilla, "Hey, I'm a nice guy!" [Switches to deep voice] "I'm a big bad creature!" No, we want to create a flawed character that makes mistakes but is really trying to do right by everyone and again, has a real vulnerable side to him that hopefully is compelling… and then tear that guy down. We're not really interested in tearing down a saint. But the cool thing is that the vulnerability and the warmth we try to give this guy, we try to go all the way with it. Yeah, he's a little bit moody, but I think the nice parts of him are really very developed.
IGN: What's Davis and Clark's relationship like initally?
Witwer: Well, at first it's just, "Who the hell is this guy? Why is everyone paying attention to this guy?" in the episode that we're shooting now, there maybe is a little bit of a contention. You asked if we put in a little piece of the darkness, and in this episode there is a little piece of aggression. But not in an unreasonable or animalistic way. It's just in a very straightforward, he's got that in him, way. He's a really nice guy, but don't antagonize him. He's not going to flip out and kill anyone, but he will warn you off. He will say, "Hey man, don't go too far." The idea being that we have to create a character who had a rough upbringing. I feel like we would be lying if we just made him a saint all the time and it just wouldn't be interesting.
GN: Were you familiar with who Doomsday was before this?
Witwer: Somewhat. If you're even passingly familiar with Superman, then you know that someone offed him and the guy's name was Doomsday. What's funny is that maybe two weeks before the producers called me in to meet with them for the first time, I downloaded the Doomsday animated movie off of Xbox Live. I hadn't watched it yet, but I was interested because I thought, "Oh, Doomsday. That's the guy who killed Superman!" So I was already aware of what he looked like and his general attributes and the fact that he was a big, tough bastard.
IGN: Do you know what sort of FX work might be in store for you and the character down the line?
Witwer: Yeah, they've told me some of it and I agree with their take. I like what they're doing. We've said that we feel like Jaws is a better movie because you barely see the shark and I think that's the sort of take that they're gonna put on Doomsday. You won't necessarily see him a lot, but when you do see him, it'll be what you expect. We're not gonna just create something else and call it Doomsday. It's Doomsday. It's that genetic super freak that was created – the ultimate survivor. That's what we're doing. They've sort of created Davis Bloome's background to be compatible with that and sort of reflect that. Davis Bloome is ultimately just this survivor and that was the way they pitched it to me and then when I started reading up on Doomsday, I was like, "Oh! They know what they're talking about!" And DC Comics has been supportive about the whole reimagining of the character. We're not trashing the back-story as it stands; we're just sort of spinning it and adding to it and hopefully people like it. We'll see what happens.
IGN: Are you looking forward to possibly getting to do some more stunt and effects work down the line on Smallville?
Witwer: Oh, absolutely, I love any kind of stunt work or FX. I've always been fascinated by that since I was a kid and I watched From Star Wars to Jedi, that old documentary.
IGN: Oh yeah! It came with the VHS box set.
Witwer: Absolutely. It had the whole Making Of from a special FX perspective and I was just fascinated.
IGN: Well, you've given me the perfect segue into The Force Unleashed. As someone who grew up with Star Wars, as we all did, is it just a trip for you to now be part of that universe?
Witwer: I'll tell you what – you know any Star Wars character, I would gladly play. Be it, movie, game or anything. I'm a huge fan of Star Wars and a huge fan of LucasArts, from the beginning of the X-Wing days. To play this guy though, it's awesome. Because look, you've got the central character of the series – that's Darth Vader. You've got the most heroic character, who's Luke Skywalker. And then you've got the most badass character, which is Starkiller. They're saying this is the guy who was, pretty much, the most powerful. Now, would Luke have been like this had he been trained? Yes, probably. But this is the guy who had the opportunity to really grow into what he could have been. He's a really interesting guy, speaking of layered characters.
We talked a lot about what is it about Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia… why are we still talking about these characters after 30 years? So we continuously said, "Well, how do we infuse this with that feeling? How do we create a character that feels like he belongs in that classic Star Wars trilogy mold? We worked very hard. We would do a bunch of takes and nothing would work and we'd say, "Why isn't this feeling like Star Wars?" And then someone would go, "Hey, wait a second… 'Faster. More intense.'"
IGN: [Laughs]
Witwer: You know well what I'm talking about. Faster and more intense is the only two directions they said George Lucas gave on the original Star Wars. But if you watch that movie, that's the perfect direction for that movie. It's got this 1940s clip to its dialogue. Really fast. The dialogue just scoots, you know? And when dialogue is fast, everything feels pretty important and it helped us. So we would do a scene and it wouldn't feel like Star Wars. "Wait, can we try that faster and more intense." We would do it and it's like, "Holy s**t. There it is! That's what it's supposed to be like." It's really fun stuff. Dude, it was just a blast. I'm telling you, just getting together with friends and making your own Star Wars is just an amazing experience.
IGN: Do you think there's any chance this character could make it into the live-action Star Wars TV series?
Witwer: Who knows? I am not familiar entirely with what they're doing with that. I've talked briefly to some of the people who are working on it, but I didn't ask anything like that. I suppose if the character is popular enough and he's doing his thing in the same time frame, maybe. The good news is that this project, for whatever reason, is sort of blessed from Lucasfilm from the beginning and continues to be. It's not like something where we went off and no one cared and that was that. For whatever reason, all the stars aligned and Lucasfilm took this as a priority to the point where Lucas helped with the story. And the story is really quite good. It tells a very important story that takes place between the two trilogies and it sets up the events for Episode IV. The amount of support we're receiving from Lucasfilm has been amazing. It's really cool, because I suppose it's easy to say, "This is the new chapter in Star Wars!" It's easy to say that. But it's easier to say that when Lucasfilm really supports what you're doing. Dude, it's been a dream. That project was just amazing.
GN: I assume whether it be the TV show or another game, this is a character you wouldn't be against revisiting?
Witwer: Sure, absolutely! He's a really cool character, because the whole thing is we decided, as we were shooting it… Because it's Star Wars, so every lunch was a working lunch. Every dinner was a working dinner. We were never not talking about it. It's funny, because we had some very attractive female cast members and they always would leave it to me to broach the damn Star Wars subject when the girls were around. We'd be sitting around and one of them would say, "Okay, so wait… what is going on here with this Order 66?" And I'm surrounded by huge Star Wars geeks in this room and we're looking over the script – there's Haden Blackman and all these guys. And Haden is like Star Wars god, and they all look at me. "So, you want to explain it?" As if they don't know! So I have to be like, "Okay… so… There was this army and Order 66…" And then I look like dork in front of the chicks! It was hysterical. I'm looking at the other guys like, "I knew this was going to happen… I knew you guys were going to leave me out in the cold!" Every time that it was time to explain to the actresses, it was always my job. They just didn't want to lose their cool, and so I'm like, "Aright… You guys are paying me. Here's the scoop on Order 66. Here's why this is the way this is…" So I completely couldn't maintain any cool on that set to save my life.
Sorry, back to the character! We decided he's the photo-negative of Luke Skywalker. And all of the thematic elements support that. The fact that his code name is Starkiller. That he's sort of this prototype Luke Skywalker. He's not Darth Vader's son, but he's Darth Vader's adopted son. This is an adopted member of the Skywalker family. Vader didn't just take this child and train him as a Sith apprentice, but also raised him. Because he was raised by Vader and because of certain things that the game suggests pretty coolly if you're a Star Wars fan, you come to understand how this character has maintained any humanity at all, because his master is Darth Vader and Darth Vader still has some good in him. So, it trickles down to Starkiller. So he's not just this straight Sith Apprentice.
We came up with this whole idea that he is two parts Han Solo, one part Darth Maul, one part Indiana Jones – because we're dorks, and there's a difference – and then one essential part Luke Skywalker. Behind it all, there had to be this wide-eyed kid who was trying to figure out what the hell to do. And at the same time, sometimes he's not that wide eyed kid. Sometimes he's very, "What is thy bidding, my master?" – that type of thing. But he doesn't always talk like that! It depends on who he's talking to and what the circumstances are. So we got to really have fun with that character and make sure that it wasn't just one note. And I think if it was one-note, it would suck. If it was just dark all the time, I think it would be very bland. Why go through a story about a character like that? But, for anyone reads this and goes, "Well, but is he going to be dark enough?!" Yeah, dude! He walks into a Tie-Fighter facility and kills hundreds of people. He's dark enough! We needed to give something else, in addition to that. I heard that once – "You're talking about how he doesn't know how to talk in front of women and he's this scared kid inside, but he's supposed to be this big Sith lord!" I'm like, "Trust me, you get that. You get plenty of it, dude." Our job was to give something else, in addition to that.
IGN: There's a certain sect of geekdom who, as they get older, seem to only want things dark, dark, dark, dark.
Witwer: Yeah, I said, "We're not here to drive it into the ground, but we are here to deliver a very dark story." It is a dark story. It's a totally dark story. You can't avoid the darkness of that time period in Star Wars history – that all the Jedi are getting killed and the ones that have survived, man, they're not doing well. And that's the fun about it – it's not just, "Oh, well, they're Jedi. They're being hunted and that's tough." Yeah, they've been hunted for years now and some of them have gone nuts and some of them are wantonly rejecting or violating the Jedi code. There's all kinds of crazy stuff that happens and it's not just that, "Oh, it's really tough!" No, there's real psychological weight to what it suggests happens to the Jedi and Lucas was very cool on that. He said, "Let me tell you what happens to Jedi during this period. It's very, very bad."
IGN: How cool is it to have your own Star Wars figure?

Witwer plays Starkiller, the main character in the videogame Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, hitting stores this Tuesday. And a week from Thursday, he will make his debut on The CW's Smallville, as paramedic Davis Bloome, a character who also happens to be the Smallville incarnation of the Superman killing menace known as Doomsday.
On a recent visit to the Smallville set, I watched as Witwer filmed a scene for the series, as he and Alison Mack ("Chloe Sullivan") sat and had drinks at an outdoor café while having a rather intense conversation. Shortly after, Witwer sat down with me to discuss his new character, plus what the experience was like starring in The Force Unleashed.
IGN TV: How's it been jumping onto a show that's in its eighth season?
Sam Witwer: I think it's been easy enough. The fun thing for me is being a character that does not understand this world, therefore, it allows for my mistakes to be more correct than wrong. I don't think this Davis Bloome guy gets superheroes or gets meteor freaks – he doesn't know what any of those things are. He sort of knows what the meteor phenomenon is about, but other than that, this is all completely new. And I think that's a cool thing to have on the show – a fresh pair of eyes to remind the audience that this is all very strange stuff.
IGN: How do we meet him?

Esta temporada cuando tuve tiempo libre hice algunas peliculas. Hice una, no estoy seguro si se llamará "Deep cove" o "Dead end", oí que mencionaban esos dos nombres. Es básicamente un thrille en el que cada 5 ó 6 años unos chicos van a una cabaña de una isla, tienen una enorme fiesta e invitan a muchas personas. Este año hay alguien en la isla que los está observando. La primera impresión es que es como todos los thrillers pero la parte interesante de la película es que, cuando la leí, la vi como una película de misterio también, no es sólo un thriller. No enseñan un montón de cosas espantosas. En realidad es sobre esos chicos que quieren descubrir quién está haciendo eso, no es sobre ellos intentando salvarse, sino que es más sobre la idea real de intentar averiguar quién es esa persona. También es una película de tipo moral, porque muchos aspectos de la película son, sobre que alguien le ha hecho algo a otra persona y por ello se produce la venganza. Realmente se reduce a asumir la responsabilidad de tus acciones. Eso es el por qué de que las cosas dejen de funcionar, esas personas han hecho algo en el pasado. Es divertido, es interesante, y veremos lo que les depara el futuro.
Q. ¿Qué nos puedes contar que sea nuevo en "Smallville" de esta temporada y de tu personaje "Jimmy"?
A. La serie este año, ha habido grandes cambios por parte de Allen Mile, uno de los creadores, que ha dejado el show. Michael Rosenbaum y Kristin Kreuk tampoco están. Dos de los cuatro actores principales que han estado desde el inicio se tan ido también. Dicho esto, creo que los guiones de este año y las historias son de lejos las mejores en las que he estado desde la sexta. Definitivamente parece que se está tomando un giro algo más oscuro, en la serie, lo cual me encanta. Creo que los nuevos personajes y los actores que han traído a la serie son increíbles. Es estupendo tener energía fresca, la gente nueva siempre trae nueva energía lo que revitaliza las cosas y creo que que es lo que se está haciendo con las historias, no es que el show esté tomando una dirección totalmente distinta, pero sí algo diferente y eso lo hace interesante. Para Jimmy, las principales historias que le están deparando son dos. Una es su compromiso con Chloe ya que en el final de temporada del año pasado Jimmy se le declaró a Chloe y ella lo dejó en el aire, irá a decir que sí o irá a decir que no. Ella va a contestar que sí al principio de la temporada así es que hay muchas cosas que hacer como el hacer una fiesta de compromiso y planificar la boda en las que Jimmy estará involucrado. Hay también una historia que han estado desarrollando en la que Jimmy va tras Clark, ya que Clark puede ser el salvador de la ciudad. No tiene ni siquiera un nombre para él ni nada por el estilo, él lo llama "el buen samaritano". Aquí es donde Jimmy empieza a unir un poco las piezas, no creo que vaya a descubrir que Clark es Supermán, creo que está inclinándose ligeramente hacia ello. Jimmy puede ser un idiota pero también tiene mucho instinto. Sabe que hay algo ahí pero tan sólo está juntando las piezas. Esas son las dos líneas argumentales en las que Jimmy está involucrado
Q. ¿De dónde continúas escarbando para hacer tu interpretación de Jimmy?
A. Principalmente con este personaje y la serie está todo escrito y tienes que interpretar el guión porque es muy específico y realmente tienen creados los personajes estupendamente. Obviamente como actores ponemos nuestra energía, nuestra energía personal en los personajes y los ideales que queremos que tengan los personajes. Realmente está todo en el guión y somos bastante afortunados en ese aspecto porque nos dan cosas interesantes que hacer y realmente han empezado a hacer salir a los personajes, especialmente para mí, para Jimmy. Este año parece que hay más tras las escenas, puedes ver un poco más de Jimmy. Realmente está todo escrito, lo que los productores y los escritores nos han dado para que trabajemos sobre ello.

Q. El productor Darrin Swimmer ha dicho que el foco de esta temporada va a ser el tener mucho más sobre el futuro de Clark. ¿Cómo te sientes con la dirección que ha tomado la historia?
A. Creo que es importante, Clark Kent no puede ser un chico para siempre, así es que su progresión y llevarlo hacia el futuro, es la completa idea del show, mostrar cómo crece. Sin ese progreso, es como decir, okay, ¿hacia dónde vamos? Creo que es un aspecto muy, muy importante para la serie y Clark este año ha conseguido un trabajo en el Daily Planet así es que es el principio. Creo que la idea de él encontrándose con otras personas puede ser el comienzo de de ver que hay ese salvador en Metrópolis. No había visto ningún guión y no sabía cómo iba a escribir el personaje, sólo que era Jimmy Olsen. Sé que "Smallville" se ha alejado del pasado, lo que es estupendo para hacer todas esas diferentes versiones de la misma historia, which is the great thing about doing all of these different versions of the same story, que puedas dejar un poco de lado algunas cosas. Así es que sabía que podía haber algunos cambios en el personaje de Jimmy pero no estaba seguro de cómo iba a ser. Ellos no han desarrollado eso demasiado y creo que con Clark estando en el Daily Planet este año y no siendo tanto su relación por Chloe todo el tiempo, como había sido en el pasado, que se conocieron mutuamente por Chloe y que Jimmy estaba inseguro en su relación porque sabe que había algo, algún tipo de secreto, un poco de algo más, pero que él no sabía y que nadie quería contarle. Así es que pienso que al asentarse y casarse y al Jimmy no estar tan inseguro con respecto a Clark, quizá esa relación va ahora a surgir y a desarrollarse. Para mí, esa es la característica principal, cuando ves a Jimmy Olsen piensas en el mejor amigo de Supermán y ése no ha sido el caso hasta ahora. Ha sido Jimmy no estando seguro de Clark. Eso es lo que espero que desarrollen, ese real, realmente sólido vínculo entre estos dos tipos porque para mí es la historia de estos personajes.
Q. Is there anything that continues to challenge you about your role?
A. Yeah, the one thing that I find challenging is a goofball and is insecure and is not really that cool, especially in comparison to all of these other superheroes and people who are in the know. It's kind of hard because your ego gets in the way a little bit sometimes because I'm like, " I want to play it cooler, I want to play it a little smoother." That's not the character and sometimes I find myself saying, "What a dork, I can't believe he's doing all of this stuff" but that is the character. That's the one thing that I find challenging, I want this guy to be likable and I want this guy to be cool and smooth, but that's not the character. The difficult thing is going in there and really accepting that you're going to come off as a goofball and that's all there is to it and just enjoy it and have fun with it. This is the first time I've really done a character like that. It is fun, but sometimes you're just like, "Oh man, everybody else gets to do all of this cool stuff and I get kidnapped and I can't do anything about it." It's fun and in the long run when I look back and watch the stuff I think I've got Jimmy Olsen down, I'm doing him some justice.
Q. What would you like to say to all of your fans and supporters?
A. I would just like to say to continue to watch and thank you for your support because it is a huge part of all of our lives. Everybody in this business, we spend crazy long hours and we live in cities that we possibly wouldn't normally live in or away from our families. We do it because we love what we do and we hope that you enjoy what we do, whether you enjoy our characters or not, it's much more about the overall project.
