Lo que al parecer sí que sabemos es que su encuentro inicial será en el vestuario de mujeres, pero Gabe no es todo encanto. Tiene profundas sospechas de lo que está pasando en el departamento de policía, particularmente una muerte que no es congruente, y será bastante implacable en sus investigaciones.

Beauty And The Beast, the new version of the ’80s US show vaguely inspired by the classic fairytale (for instance, there were no cops or mobile phones in the fairy tale) starts tomorrow in the UK on Watch at 9pm.

Former Smallville star Kristin Kreuk plays Catherine Chandler, a detective who nine years ago witnessed her mother being shot the same night she is saved from her mother´s murderers by a mysterious man-beast. Her latest case leads her to Vincent Keller (Jay Ryan), an ex-soldier, allegedly killed in action. In fact, he was the subject of experiments that bring out the worst in him… But despite the obstacles a bond grows between them.

Here Kristin Kreuk talks about how much she’s enjoying her latest role, and the success it’s already been in the States:

What do you love most about working on Beauty And The Beast?

Kristin Kreuk: “I love working with the cast and the crew. This is a group of people that can sit and talk about the show and how to make it better, how to make the stories work, how do we make each scene as dynamic as possible. The producers have been really open to collaborating with us, which doesn’t always happen, so I feel very lucky that we can really bombard them with ideas and they’ll take it in.”

How does Catherine rationalise her relationship with Vincent?

“After Catherine’s mom dies her sense of justice is incredibly profound. Vincent is the ultimate injustice in her mind. She sees a man who has gone through so much and even though she knows he’s not right for her, deep down she knows she can’t walk away from him.”

What similarities do Catherine and Vincent Share?

“They both want to help other people to avoid the tragedies they both went through. As their relationship develops and they become more relaxed in each other’s company we start to see their humorous sides come out as they become more playful with one another.”

How important is the procedural element on Beauty And The Beast?

“The crime element of the show is prevalent in every episode and provides an interesting take on the traditional story of Beauty And The Beast. We have two female cops that work together who are kind of opposites, so this does end up providing a lot of the show’s humour.”

Are there universal themes in Beauty And The Beast that international audiences can relate to?

“Beauty And The Beast is about love. A love you build with somebody over time despite difficulties. It’s about looking past a person’s looks and chequered past to see their inner beauty.”

Is there an item from Catherine’s wardrobe that you feel identifies your character?

“Catherine is interesting because she is not a style girl. So for her it’s all about practicality. Catherine has a relaxed attitude to fashion but she likes comfort above all things – a good flat boot so you can run and hurt people if you need to.”

What has been the fan reaction to Beauty And The Beast?

“People are already very intense about the show and we’ve only a few episodes in America and Canada so they’re responding well so far. They love Catherine and Vincent together. They like all the mythology and they want to know how everything develops. They’re rooting for the characters to be together, which is great, so they seem to like it.”

Speaking with TVLine at this month’s Peoples Choice Awards — where B&tB won Favorite New TV Drama — Jay Ryan said the CW freshman’s winter premiere (airing Thursday at 9/8c) presents a nightmare scenario for Vincent, who for years has labored to fly under the radar, especially when it comes to dodging those he held dear.

“It’s always been a fear of his that he is spotted on the street by someone he loves and never said goodbye to,” Ryan said, “and Alex is the No. 1 love he never wanted to see again because of the way he left, which we discover as the series progresses.”

Ryan said that Vincent effectively left Alex at the altar when he BBblurbjoined the army and ultimately was subject to the experiments that turned him into a part-time beast. Long story, short: She was left to believe him dead — until, that is, they cross paths at the hospital where Cat is being treated and she works as a doctor.

Given that Vincent had just ventured out in public to join Catherine at her father’s wedding, coupled with many “would’ve/could’ve” thoughts she is having in the wake of cheating death, the timing for this reunion could have been better. “He’s just gotten to that place of bringing his emotions to the surface with Catherine when Alex shows up,” Ryan said. “Now he’s got to learn how to navigate between two females that he loves — or one that he loves now and one that he had feelings for in the past.”

And how does Catherine herself react to this blast from Vincent’s romantic past? “It’s really intense for her,” Kristin Kreuk previewed for us at the PCAs. “She doesn’t trust people easily, and she has not been in love with someone probably since she was a teenager. So it’s a massive gut-punch for her.”

As Vincent (Jay Ryan), in beast form, arrived on the scene, so did an already suspicious Evan (Max Brown), leaving the audience wondering if Vincent's secret would officially be out. When the show returns (Thursday, 9/8c), Catherine will be recovering in the hospital where Vincent has another run-in, this time with a woman from his past. How will Vincent avoid being discovered and will Catherine continue to risk everything to ultimately be with him? Keep reading to find out.


When Vincent visits Catherine in the hospital, he's spotted by his ex-fiancée, Alex (Bridget Regan). How will he explain that he's actually alive?
Jay Ryan: Vincent holds huge guilt toward the way he left Alex. We discover that before the military he spiraled into this dark state where he was addicted to medication, he was writing prescriptions on prescription pads and Alex nursed him out of that. When he couldn't handle that and the anger of his brother's death, he basically packed his bags without her even knowing. So when she sees him he has to decide if he'll let this woman think she's insane, like people think Catherine is for saying that a beast saved her 10 years ago. He eventually tries to tell the truth, but finds it extremely difficult to tell the one woman who he loved that he's a grotesque creature on the inside.

So he lies to her?
Ryan: He thinks he could possibly live a normal life without telling her. They end up going on a "romantic weekend" because Catherine pushes Vincent to tell Alex the truth, but for Alex, she thinks they'll consummate the relationship again and go full throttle, but for Vincent it's the moment he'll release his secret.

With Alex in the picture, does that mean him and Catherine could be over?
Ryan: I don't think for once Vincent doesn't think Catherine isn't the love of his life, but for a selfish reason Vincent is toying with the idea that he can live a normal life with Alex. If he elopes with her, away from all this craziness, he also lets the people closest to him free without having to lie for him. But he also gives Catherine an ultimatum of, "Alex is saying, 'Let's live far away, 'would you do that for me?"

How will Vincent keep Evan from finding out that Vincent is the beast he's seen twice now?
Ryan: Since Evan does get a glimpse of this creature holding Catherine in his arms, it really turns his suspicion into, "I know for sure there's a connection between Catherine and this vigilante," which ramps up his investigation.

And he starts to work J.T. (Austin Basis), right?
Ryan: By pulling J.T. into it, J.T. can keep an eye on it from the inside and it also gives him the ability to use Evan's equipment and take a fine tuning to what's going on with his body. He discovers that Vincent is having these rapid growing pains, but they're actually a good thing, nothing more animalistic, and they're these abilities that were designed for these super-soldiers, but never came to fruition because they were all eradicated.

Finally, will we ever see Catherine and Vincent kiss? They've come so close!
Ryan: Yes, you will see a kiss and a lot more than a kiss.

"Beauty and the Beast" has really hit its stride. Coming off of the show's People's Choice Award for best new series, Catherine and Vincent are ready to return to a whole bunch of new changes. Jay Ryan, the Beast himself, talked a bit about what those changes could mean.

The big news in the upcoming episodes of "Beauty and the Beast" is the appearance of Vincent's ex-fiancee, Alex (Bridget Regan). He meets up with her in the hospital after Catherine's (Kristin Kreuk) accident, and things are difficult, to say the least. After all, Alex thinks Vincent is dead.

"That is one of his biggest fears -- that he bumps into someone very close to him from his past," Ryan explained. "He packed up his bags -- without even leaving a note -- and enlisted. He never got to say goodbye, because he enlisted into these experiments and that's sort of how things started to go awry."

Could there be a future between Vincent and Alex? Obviously, any such future isn't forever. After all, Catherine is "obviously his true soul-mate." But there are problems between Vincent and Cat now. "He sees this fear in Catherine's eyes," Ryan said of Catherine's reaction to his now-mutating DNA. "That's kind of his biggest insecurity, so it pushes him back quite far."

Will this insecurity push Vincent all the way to Alex? The answer seems to be a maybe. "She's not Catherine, she knew him as the old Vincent before he became this creature," Ryan said. "Now he's got an out in his ex-fiancee who was once the love of his life. She's not Catherine, but she knew him as the old Vincent before he became this creature. She doesn't know what lies within him."

The new love triangle will play out over the next few episodes.

And fans can definitely plan on getting many more episodes to watch. Now that the show has a People's Choice Award, it's not about to disappear. The actors on the show are pretty happy about this too: "I was shocked and pleasantly surprised," Ryan said of the award. "We know that we've got this amazing fan following -- who obviously love to vote. It's really rewarding, because it lets us know that people are enjoying it and want it to continue... It just shows that the Beasties, as they call themselves, are a force to be reckoned with."

It’s been more than a month since that doozy of a cliffhanger on The CW’s Beauty and the Beast, and when the show returns from its holiday hiatus on Thursday, Jan. 24, don’t expect the drama to settle down. In fact, when Jay Ryan talked to Hollywood.com about tonight’s midseason premiere, “Seeing Red,” he couldn’t stress enough about how high the stakes have been raised.

After Catherine’s (Kristin Kreuk) car crash/shootout at the end of the midseason finale, we saw Vincent, in beast mode, holding an unconscious Catherine while Evan and Heather arrived on the scene. How did the beast get out of that situation with his secret identity in tact? And how will our favorite star-crossed lovers cope when Vincent’s former fiancée Alex (guest star Bridget Regan) discovers he is alive when he visits Cat in the hospital? Meanwhile, J.T. (Austin Basis) gets a surprising visitor asking about old research he did on mutant DNA, complicating his bromance with Vincent.

Before you watch tonight’s episode, read up on all the spoilery tidbits Ryan revealed about the complicated “love square” between the major characters, the consequences of Vincent’s past catching up with him, and the focus of the rest of the season.

Hollywood.com: So when we last saw Vincent, he was in a very compromising situation with Cat. When we come back, what are the repercussions of his actions?
Jay Ryan: Vincent’s left with the call of, 'Does he have his beast instincts take over and run off into the night with Catherine’s lifeless body or does he leave her there when Evan arrives so he can take care of her?' I think Vincent’s conscience comes into the beast and I think that’s the thing he realizes he needs to do. What she needs right now is a doctor, and as the beast he does not have those capabilities. It’s a very difficult thing for him to leave the one true love of his life in the hands of the guy that could realistically take Catherine away from him.

Usually Cat is able to help calm him down when he's in beast mode. Is she able to get through to him in any way after the crash?
Well, she’s unconscious. So it’s the first time that Vincent is really on his own to bring his own rage down and make a rational decision as a human being while this beast overtakes his body. I think you really see at that point that from the beginning of the series his feral, ferocious side of the beast is truly being tamed and he does understand what’s going on when he’s in this form. But it’s very difficult for him because he has to basically explain to Catherine when she’s in the hospital and he goes to visit her that the so-called doctor that saved her life was in fact Evan and not him. So it really takes a beating to his pride and ego in that point. He kind of feels again like this hopeless creature that could never ever give the love and support to a woman like Catherine that she needs.

How does his ex-fiancee come into the picture?
Well, while he’s at the hospital he has one of the greatest fears of his life happen, and that is being discovered by someone from his past and his old family. And that is Alex, his ex-fiancee. So Vincent has to very quickly decide, does he let it go and make her believe that she saw somewhat of a ghost, or a lookalike? All of these demons from the past, his past, resurface for him. He has to stand up as a man and finally take charge and explain to this woman what happened, where he went wrong, why he never contacted her for so long, why she thought he was dead, all these unanswered questions. Vincent’s very worried about how she’s going to react and once he tells her the truth of what he has become, she then becomes a target for his greatest enemy, Muirfield. So every time he goes to tell her, his instincts pull him back and he starts to make up elaborate stories about why he’s been away, like the CIA, blah blah blah. Every time he goes to tell her, Alex pulls him in and sort of reminds him of the love that they had, and whatever the secret is that he’s holding, that doesn’t matter. They can rekindle what they had.

So I'm assuming Vincent still has feelings for Alex.
Absolutely. And they’re unresolved feelings. He holds a lot of guilt, primarily, because Alex sort of nursed him through his meds addiction that he got when his brothers had passed on and he was in this really dark place. I think his anger at how his brothers died prompted him to pack his bags and disappear and go off to the military, without even giving her an option to talk him out of it or talk him through it or about where they stand in their relationship. So it’s been 10, 11, 12 years since Vincent walked out on his ex-fiancée and this is the first time he’s seeing her. So there’s a lot of guilt and a lot of stuff they have to talk about.

That doesn't sound too good for Catherine and Vincent!
So it really heats up into… kind of a love triangle, I guess. But it’s a very complicated one.

Well, with Evan in the picture, wouldn't that make it a love square?
A love square, I like that. Yes, absolutely. There is a love square. And the thing with Evan is that now he’s seen an image of this so-called vigilante holding Catherine. So his suspicion that Catherine may have some connection with this guy, he doesn’t really take Catherine’s word for it that she has nothing to do with it, with this creature. So the hunt and the passion for Evan’s drive to find this thing is more fun and more fierce.

How is that going to shape the rest of the season?
Well I feel like the show started out very much as two genres. You have the procedural and then the mythology of the beast. And the procedural was very much about establishing who Catherine was and her job and how great she was at it. And now I think we’re weaving even tighter those two elements. We’ll very much see the show changes course and the procedural will basically be this witch hunt for this so-called vigilante. It’s really great because I feel like all the pieces of the show are now connected. It’s going to be more of a fuller high-stakes romance, I guess, where all the worlds of our two lovers come crashing very closely together.
